Tasting Davidoff Black Band Limited Edition 2022

Tasting Davidoff Black Band Limited Edition 2022 in the Zigarren.Zone Lounge. Three people tested the new Davidoff cigar: Fabian Cigliano (Product Manager Davidoff Switzerland), Christian Schmid (Photographer) and Vasilij Ratej (Editor Zigarren.Zone). The new cigar is a "marriage" of three lines: Davidoff Escurio, Davidoff Yamasá and Davidoff Nicaragua. You can find out how this union into one cigar worked out in this tasting article.
A cigar test is subjective
Note: How the cigar tastes is influenced by personal taste preferences, taste memories, the shape of the day, what you have eaten or drunk before. Even the lighting mood in the room has an influence on the experienced taste. The notes described here therefore do not have to match your own impressions.

First half
- Tongue, palate: fruity and at the same time slightly salty / sweetish / nutty / coffee beans / sour / grassy / leather / slightly spicy
- Retronasal: nutty / roasted coffee beans / wood
- R+ ZiZo vacuum technology: nutty / coffee beans very roasted / wood / slightly salty
- Umami: meaty / roasted
- Strength 3/5 > Note: You might already experience the cigar in strength 4/5.
Second half
The flavor notes alternate. Please see "Conclusion".
Strength 4/5. I tested two specimens. One on 12.04.22 and one on 13.04.22. Both were 5/5 in strength for me from the second half onwards. Attention, the cigar has a lot of nicotine. However, depending on your personal "constellation", you may find the cigar somewhat milder.

Conclusion Tasting Davidoff Black Band Limited Edition 2022
The cigar is a little "beater": thick, but not necessarily very long. With a length of 14 cm and a ring gauge of 58, you still hold something decent in your hand (and this pun is unintentionally naughty) ?

What a tobacco combination! The Davidoff Black Band Limited Edition 2022 tasting was impressive. Davidoff combined tobacco blends from three different Davidoff cigars in this cigar:
- Davidoff Escurio: The rains of the Brazilian Bahia region provide the salty-sweet and spicy taste of Davidoff Escurio.
- Davidoff Nicaragua: The volcanic soils in Nicaragua produce the fiery, bittersweet intensity of Davidoff Nicaragua.
- Davidoff Yamasá: The iron-rich red earth soil in the Dominican Yamasá Valley influences the earthy, rich complexity in the Davidoff Yamasá Blend.

How did this exceptional tobacco combination turn out? Fabian and Christian each scored 4.4 points out of 5 using the Zigarren.Zone tasting tool. Vasilij's cigar scored 4.5 points out of 5. The average is therefore 4.43 points out of 5, a pretty good result.

How did the cigar develop over the course of the smoke? It's an up and down. At times, the salt dominates before being replaced by a slightly sweet, nutty taste. A little later, the wood and grass dominate before being replaced by leather and a slightly acidic impression. Then the salt comes to the fore again, but this time perhaps with nuts and leather.

The cigar surprises you the whole time - that's why it's so exciting! You don't know what to expect next. All three testers expected one thing: pepper from the Nicargua line. However, this remained completely hidden. At most, a little spice was noticeable. But that was just as well. Because pepper would have been the wrong ingredient for this exceptional tobacco blend.

Why is this cigar so surprising during the smoke? We suspected it was because of the Brazilian tobacco. Tobacco like this is very special. You either love it or you hate it. As a reminder: the binder and the filler are made from Brazilian tobacco. All three of us find it difficult to describe the taste.

Maybe like this: over time (from the second half onwards) the smoke becomes "thicker" and you can feel the consistency of the smoke in your mouth. It's almost as if you could chew it; of course you can't chew the smoke, but maybe you know this feeling from other cigars? Over time, a certain heaviness settles on the tongue, you can feel it, you can taste it. The Brazil tobacco comes into its own here.
Towards the last third, the strength of the cigar increases, reaching 4/5 (depending on the form of the day); and it becomes a little bitchy, harsh and somewhat harsh in taste. Perhaps it still needs a few days or weeks to acclimatize.

The burn is straight, the ash is compact and firm. My sample had a slight skewed burn (correct with flame). One day later, I tested another one, without a crooked burn.
Tip: As a reminder > Around the last third, the cigar became a little bitchy, hashy and harsh in taste from the three test subjects. I tasted another one a day later. From the halfway point, I drew even less on it than usual. The cigar did NOT become harsh and harsh tasting. The strength increased to 4/5, but I was able to puff this one well into the last third.

Our recommendation is unanimous: Buy several copies. Test one immediately after purchase and the others at intervals of days and weeks. Make tasting notes so that you can notice the differences weeks later. Rate cigars like a pro: Cigars.Zone tasting tool.

As always, "If the cigar tastes good to me, then maybe to you. But if you don't like it, then there's more for me!" 🙂
