Mombacho Cigars and the end of an era

Mombacho Cigars. News just reached me that the popular MOMBACHO cigar brand appears to be out of production. The press release is not clear to me and it is not clear if the owners are pulling out or if the brand is no longer in production. I have reached out to Jared Michaeli (president and co-founder of Mombacho). So far, I have not received a response. Below is the press release (translated) and in the original English. Anyway, there are no more cigars on the Favilli (Mombacho) website, except for a slider.

Addendum, 10/06/2023 / Jared Michaeli responded, "Mombacho has been out of production for over a year and a half."

Mombacho Cigars, the media release, translated

09 June 23

To our wonderful and respected clientele, friends, family, partners and supporters: When Mombacho was founded in 2006 by backpackers enthralled by the beauty of Nicaragua, you could never have imagined that, on the summit of Mombacho Volcano, with a cigar in hand, an adventure spanning nearly two decades would turn into such a life experience. You have had this experience with us, supporting our brands and ideas in three locations in Granada, Nicaragua, and every time you have chosen one of our products to spend time with us.

When we purchased the Favilli Mansion in 2014, we knew full well that our goal was to grow and compete on the global stage as a luxury producer of fine, handcrafted cigars. The Favilli Mansion was the place where we could bring that vision to life and allow travelers and consumers from around the world to experience the beauty of Nicaragua through one of its finest treasures, the cigar.

In 2021, we understood best that what you supported and what we had been working towards was overdue to be presented in a way that would bring recognition and attention to our production, Granada and Nicaragua on the world stage. We renovated the international landmark, the Favilli Villa, and opened to the world one of the most luxurious places to experience in Central America, encompassing four floors of cocktail bars, cigars, event spaces and a huge hall, cigars, event spaces and understated elegance in the gilded Favilli Villa.

We have announced our retirement from the cigar industry and the luxury hospitality industry in 2023. We understand that this may come as a surprise to our customers and the cigar industry in general, but as a conglomerate of cigar and hospitality professionals, we have collectively decided to move on to the next stage of life and adventure. So we thank all our customers, friends and family members who have shared this vision and time with us. We cannot say goodbye as our paths may cross again in this small world, but we say goodbye to you for this moment.

We know that part of our hearts is deeply rooted in Mombacho and Favilli, and that everyone who has been a part of it holds tightly the memories and experiences we have all shared on this journey. On behalf of Granada, the entire founding team, factory staff, hospitality employees, investors, partners and friends of Mombacho and Favilli, we would like to thank and appreciate each and every one of you.

Yours sincerely from the operational partners

Cameron Heaos, Founder of Mombacho Cigars S.A.
