Davidoff 110TH Anniversary

Davidoff 110th Anniversary Tasting

Davidoff 110th Anniversary is this year's highlight of Davidoff's new releases. It is strong and has a strength of 4/5. Here is my test. It is already available in the Davidoff flagship stores in Switzerland. It will be available in their stores worldwide. There are 2,200 boxes of 10 cigars worldwide. Collectors of Davidoff cigars must not miss out. So should everyone else who likes strong cigars. In the conclusion, Sam Reuter from Oettinger Davidoff explains how this cigar was created and why the ash can be flaky.

A cigar test is subjective

Note: How the cigar tastes is influenced by personal taste preferences, taste memories, the shape of the day, what you have eaten or drunk before. Even the lighting mood in the room has an influence on the experienced taste. The notes described here therefore do not have to match your own impressions.

Conclusion

The Davidoff 110th Anniversary is a very special cigar. I think you either love it or you don't. The tobacco blend is excellent. The blenders have done an outstanding job here and have implemented the marketing specifications at the highest level.

Davidoff 110TH Anniversary
An outstanding blend of tobacco. Excellently realized.

I couldn't rate my first test sample. It blew me away so much that it tasted very bitter to me. This is not a fault of the cigarbut my daily form was completely unsuitable for cigars on this day. I would like to mention that I tasted a sample before the actual test. We talked about this and that in my lounge with the Product Manager of Davidoff Switzerland, Fabian Cigliano. During the conversation and the smoke, I really enjoyed the cigar.

Tip: Nicotine flash: What it is and what you can do about it immediately > KLICK. The cigar is strong and an inexperienced cigar connoisseur should know what a nicotine flash is.

Davidoff 110TH Anniversary
The cigar is very rich in flavor.

Let's move on to the other two cigars that I tasted under test conditions. I always test the cigars in the morning before breakfast to make the test conditions as uniform as possible.

The Davidoff 110th Anniversary is a richly flavored cigar. Nut, wood and coffee beans are the flavors I tasted the most. There is also a mixture of dark cocoa, some pepper and a little acidity. The balance is outstanding - a wonderful Davidoff.

Davidoff 110TH Anniversary
A Davidoff with a strength of 4/5.

As for the ash: it is flaky and does not last long. The burn is very good over long stretches. After the first ashing there was a considerable skewed burn, which I had to correct with the flame. The occasional wave burn corrected itself on both specimens.

During the smoke, the cigar needs attention. In the second and third third it has a tendency to smoulder quickly. I had to lovingly keep it glowing; don't pull on it too much. In the last third, I had to degas.

I like this creation: very strong and rich in flavor. A must for lovers of such cigars. A tip for beginners: just try a cigar like this. Eat something beforehand so that the strength doesn't knock you out. Enjoy it slowly and be relaxed, but still focused on the smoke; don't let yourself be distracted.

Davidoff 110TH Anniversary
More and more intense flavors until the end. A really great smoke.

Sam Reuter on the creation of the cigar and why an ash can be flaky

Sam Reuter from Oettinger Davidoff Basel, is Director, Global Brand Ambassador & Head of Product Development & Strategic Innovation. He explains how the creation of this cigar was approached. I asked him: "In my opinion, the blenders implemented the marketing guidelines very well. How do you think it was implemented?"

"I am very much involved in the implementation and write our master blenders a cigar brief on how I imagine the cigar will fit into the concept. This implementation, or blending, is then carried out by the master blenders by creating different blends. These are then tasted and approved in our internal tasting panel (must always fit the concept). Specifically for the Davidoff 110th Anniversary, which celebrates the 110 years of Davidoff since 1911, it was very important that this cigar inspires a large number of cigar connoisseurs. We also have very exclusive tobaccos in the cigar, which are only available for a small number of cigars."

Something else interests me and I ask him why an ash can be flaky. He explains it to us:

"The flaky ash is usually a sign that the cigar is still fresh. This means that the moisture content of the cigar is slightly too high. This has nothing to do with your storage, but with the water content in the raw tobacco. Another reason may be that the cigar roller has rolled the filler tobaccos a little too loosely, making the ash a little flaky."
