A cigar test is subjective

Note: How the cigar tastes is influenced by personal taste preferences, taste memories, the shape of the day, what you have eaten or drunk before. Even the lighting mood in the room has an influence on the experienced taste. The notes described here therefore do not have to match your own impressions.

On the paper you can see how much the tobacco has worked during the maturing process.

I have never seen the tobacco "work" so hard before. You can even see traces of it on individual cigars because the paper was lying on the wrapper. Of course, this is not a fault of the cigar.

Personal impressions in taste

Recommended ageing: At least 4 years.

First half

  • Tongue, palate: Lots of cocoa and wood
  • Retronasal: Roasted aromas of burning, dark wood
  • R+ ZiZo vacuum technology: Rusty aromas of strong and very dark coffee beans
  • Umami: slightly spicy / juicy
  • Strength 3/5

Second half

  • Similar richness of aromas as the first half, but with much more intensity: Cocoa / wood / some earth / slightly sweetish

Conclusion

The Punch 48 from 2016 has developed magnificently. On the tissue paper (or what is that actually?) you can see strong residues of the tobacco. It has worked quite hard during the ageing process. It was a real pleasure to taste this cigar. You can find out why ageing is important for Cuban cigars in the "Resources on the subject" section below.

A great format and a great cover sheet.

Lots of cocoa, wood, coffee beans and earth: a wonderful smoke!

This cigar remains a top product until the finale. In the course of the last third, it becomes somewhat spicy. This is not a fault of the cigar, but shows that the ageing process is not yet complete. I think another two years will do it good.
