La Galera ist in der Schweiz eingetroffen. Der Schweizer Importeur The Royal Cigar Company AG belebt den Schweizer Zigarrenmarkt ein weiteres Mal. Anfang Februar 2021 brachte er die Marke La Galera in die Humidore der Zigarrengeniesser in der Schweiz.

Die junge Marke La Galera von José „Jochy“ Blanco feiert international grosse Erfolge und erschliesst laufend neue Märkte. Basierend auf einer langen Freundschaft mit Jochy freut sich The Royal Cigar Company AG die Marke in der Schweiz zu etablieren.

Über La Galera Anemoi

Eine wichtige Rolle beim Tabakanbau spielen die Winde, auch wenn diese generell gesehen nicht als wesentlich angesehen werden. Die Griechen, selbst Genies, verstanden auch die Bedeutung des Windes. Der kollektive Name ihrer Windgötter ist ANEMOI. Der Nordwind wurde Boreas genannt, der Südwind wurde Notus, der Ostwind wurde Eurus getauft, und Zephyrus war dem Westwind vorbehalten.

Die Richtung jedes Windes gab den Griechen eine Vorstellung davon, ob sie eine gute Ernte erwarten oder sich auf eine schlechte Jahreszeit einstellen sollten. La Galera hielt es für angemessen, diesen allgegenwärtigen Kräften den Respekt zu erweisen. Die Dominikanische Republik ist keine Ausnahme vom Einfluss dieser Winde.

Test: Persönliche Eindrücke vom Genuss

First half

• Tongue, palate: Die ersten ca. 10 Minuten waren bei meinen 4 Exemplaren geprägt von starken Pfeffer-Noten, viel Zartbitter und Schärfe. Danach verpuffte dies. Danach gab’s ordentliche Portionen von Nuss / Kakao / Erde / Holz / sehr wenig Süsse
• Retronasal: Viel Holz / viel Kaffeebohnen
• R+ ZiZo vacuum technology: dunkles, brennendes Holz / extrem viel Espressobohnen
• Umami: würzig, fleischig
• Strength 3/5

Second half

• Strength 4/5
• Etwas Säure kommt hinzu und gibt der Zigarre eine sehr gute Balance
• Die Geschmacksnoten aus der ersten Hälfte steigern sich

What is the "R+ ZiZo vacuum technology"?

This is the consummate pleasure of a cigar. Hard to describe. I'll try. Here's an example: a baby sucking on a pacifier. Try this technique with a cigar. Very little smoke enters the mouth. But this passes over the tongue and goes right through the nose. I tried it on about 10 cigars before I mastered it. Please be very careful with this technique when practicing: the smoke got to the back of my larynx several times when I did this. It was really bad. But now that I can do it, it's an accomplished technique for enjoying a cigar.

What is umami?

This means "savory", "spicy", "essence", "meaty". This blending of taste sensations is perceived in the middle of the tongue. You can find a good article about it on Wikipedia. 

Non Cuba cigars and the important acclimatization

Acclimatization recommendation: 1 week in the humidor with cellophane.

The fact is: You don't know when the cigar was imported and how long its resting period was at the importer. You also do not know how long the resting phase was at the dealer. The cigars have a shock after their transport from the tropics to us in Europe. They have to acclimatize first. The industry is sales-oriented. The cigars have to get to the retail market quickly. Therefore, it can happen that they do not taste as they should.

If you buy single copies

Place the cigar with the cellophane in the humidor. If your cigar does not have cellophane: Put them in tubos and then in the humidor. Or you can put the single cigar in a Zippo bag and put a small Boveda in it. Then you put it closed in the humidor. Cigars that are stored open without cellophane or a box lose their flavor very quickly. This is proven in this article with experiments.

Fazit der La Galera Anemoi Notus

Ich gebe zu: Die ersten ca. 10 Minuten fand ich die Zigarre nicht gut (4 getestete Zigarren, unterschiedliche Tage und Uhrzeiten). Sie fing scharf (Pfeffer / Chilli) und bitter an. Danach verflogen diese Geschmacksnoten. Es war erstaunlich und wie vom Winde verweht. Jetzt verstehe ich den tieferen Sinn dieser „Wind-Zigarre“.

Danach wurde sie sehr aromatisch und hat mir sehr gut geschmeckt. Die Asche ist fest und kompakt. In der ersten Hälfte starteten die Exemplare mit einer Stärke 3/5. Im Verlauf des Smokes geht’s hoch auf 4/5.
