2013, Launch of Davidoff Nicaragua. It was the first Davidoff cigar that wore a black band.

Basel, Switzerland, June 2023. To mark the tenth anniversary year of the Nicaragua line, Davidoff is launching a limited edition Gran Toro Cigar. With tobacco aged in rum barrels and a handsome cutter in Davidoff Nicaragua design. The popular line has a special significance for the brand. Its entry into the market laid the foundation for the innovative Black Band Collection, which is now popular with aficionados worldwide.

In 2013, Davidoff Cigars challenged its aficionados to explore new flavors from other parts of the world with the then freshly launched Davidoff Nicaragua line. The line was the first to feature a black band. Thus, it was an absolute first for Davidoff. "To date, we have focused on milder blends with our White Band Collection. In particular, we wanted to please our aficionados looking for more intense palate stimulation.

We went out into the world to diversify our portfolio with tobaccos that grew in different conditions. We found what we were looking for in Nicaragua's volcanic soil - a fiery intensity that our master blenders knew how to tame and refine. They combined Davidoff sophistication with bittersweet intensity. That's how Davidoff Nicaragua was born," explains Edward Simon, CMO at Oettinger Davidoff.

The wrapper, binder and filler have a combined age of 45 years.

"For the tenth anniversary of the line, our master blenders took on a new challenge. They created a cigar with Nicaraguan tobacco, whose blend gives even more depth. Our elaborate barrel fermentation and the impressive age of the tobaccos make for a full-bodied and refined cigar experience that is second to none."

The Limited Edition Gran Toro cigar is reminiscent of the existing Nicaraguan blend. However, it reaches a new level in taste. Davidoff's master blenders broke new ground to create an exciting taste experience. In honor of the anniversary, they placed a high emphasis on the maturity of the tobaccos. The wrapper, binder and filler tobaccos have a combined age of 45 years. Another special feature is the Estelí Seco tobacco in the filler. It was allowed to age for a total of 6 months in a rum barrel - a first for Davidoff. This process creates a noticeable depth and complexity in the blend.

Taste experience - the peak of Davidoff Nicaragua

Our elaborate barrel fermentation and the impressive age of the tobaccos provide a full-bodied and refined cigar experience that is second to none. Another special feature is the Estelí Seco tobacco in the filler. It was allowed to mature for a total of 6 months in a rum barrel - a first for Davidoff. This process creates a noticeable depth and complexity in the blend.

At the beginning, the Gran Toro thrills with complex aromas of nut. The Nicaraguan filler tobaccos contribute with notes of fresh spice and leather. The considerable age of the tobaccos provides noticeable balance. In the second third, the spicy stimulation slowly subsides. Then the flavor evolves to more intense notes of oak, latte. Exciting eucalyptus flavors develop in addition. Towards the end, the intensity increases again and the previous latte notes turn into those of black coffee. Aromas of fresh herbs join the omnipresent roasted flavors of this masterpiece. 60 to 70 minutes of beautifully filled time - a pleasure for any aficionado.

The 12 Gran Toro cigars come in a wooden box, which shows the carefully lacquered Nicaragua pattern. The frame reveals the eye-catching color of the main line, and the 10th Anniversary sticker on the lid, specially designed for the special occasion.

The numbered accessory is made of brushed stainless steel in matte black with silver blades.

The high-quality Double Blade Cutter is the ideal complement to the Gran Toro cigar.
