Davidoff Millennium Lancero Limited Edition Test Report

The Davidoff Millennium Lancero is a cigar I tried at the Slow Tasting. Here is my report and a quiz. The novelty comes from 06.04.23 in the trade. It is a new edition of the former Millennium Blend Lancero. The box of 10 costs CHF 290.00. In Switzerland there are 1'100 boxes. Worldwide there are 14'600 boxes. Enjoy my test report! Here the cigar is presented with even more interesting information.

The Difference - What is the difference?

Do you know the difference? Four cigar lines from Davidoff are presented under The Difference.

The White Band is

The four lines are called White Band Collection. It is a timeless icon of sophistication and elegance. The difference with other cigars is, among other things, the strict quality control. In other words: When the white band closes around a cigar, it is the final act of a ritual of Caribbean passion and Swiss precision.

Recommended acclimatization in humidor with cellophane: 8 weeks

General impression after lighting in the first 5 minutes

The lighting and the draw resistance: The lighting succeeds without any problems. The draw resistance is optimal.

The burn, the strength and the taste: The burn in the first five minutes is even (please note the conclusion). The strength is 3/5 at the beginning and becomes maximum 4/5 in the course of the smoke.

Impression during the smoke

Aftertaste and aroma (scent of smoke = room note)

First half: not quite intense and staying positive.

Second half a bit more intense and staying positive.

Taste on the tongue

First half: nut, some pepper, cocoa, slightly acidic

Second half: More nut, some pepper, a little spicy, cocoa, wood, acidic.

Retronasal

First half: slightly spicy, a bit acidic, nutty, lots of coffee beans and burning wood.

Second half: Like the first half, but much more coffee beans and much more burning wood

ZiZo R+ Technology

First half: A lot of nut, some pepper, a lot of coffee beans and a lot of burning wood.

Second half: Like the first half, but a little spicy and much, much, much more coffee beans! Very horny.

Course of enjoyment and conclusion

Course of enjoyment: It develops steadily. The first half perhaps a bit linear, but that is criticism on a high level.

Conclusion: I was able to test three specimens as early as mid-March 2023. The ash is flaky and not long lasting. Occasionally the three specimens tended to glow unevenly; the flame helped (please be careful not to overheat this fantastic format). Other than that, all three specimens glowed perfectly. I recommend acclimating for at least 8 weeks after purchase. The cigar still needs some time since it came to us from the tropics.

This is not a fault of the cigar, but this format simply needs some more rest because of the journey.

I love this format!

It is very elegant and tastes great. At this point, a compliment to the courage of Oettinger Davidoff to launch a long and slim format for the second time in a row! In February 2023 came the Davidoff Signature No. 1 on the market, a Panetela Larga! And now comes the Lancero! Wow.

Why am I writing that it takes courage? For one thing, because these formats require even slower smoking than you might want; that's why the worldwide sales of these formats are not so high. For another, you need master rollers. A thin and long format is very difficult to roll to ensure optimal draw resistance and a "deep" and aromatic flavor.

Top!

I discovered a review of mine from 2016, still with the so-called Millennium Blend of the Davidoff Lancero. I found them boring at the time.

But this new blend from 2023 and especially the new wrapper have made it a very different cigar!

Buy? Yes, preferably two boxes. One to taste soon and one to age. Maturation potential, my estimate, about two years.

A cigar test is subjective. The taste of a cigar is influenced by personal taste preferences, taste memories, the shape of the day, what you have eaten or drunk before. Even the lighting mood in the room influences the taste experience. The taste nuances described here therefore do not have to correspond to one's own impressions.
