Insights into production
Size comparison: the Cohiba Short on the left and the new Cohiba Wide Short on the right.
As far as origin is concerned, Cohiba remains true to its line of cigarillos: the filler, binder and wrapper all come from Cuba. The Wide Short is a machine-made short filler (mecanizado). This may be a drawback for some in terms of exclusivity, but let's see how it performs in the test.
My experience with the Cohiba Wide Short
Full of tobacco flavor!
I have tested three of these cigarillos to give you a well-founded impression. A direct comparison with the already familiar Cohiba Short is immediately noticeable: The Wide Short is significantly larger. This not only ensures a longer smoking time, but also a different taste experience.
Tasting notes
When smoking the Wide Short, I noticed how creamy it is compared to the Short variant. It has a rich tobacco flavor that is infused with notes of earth and wood. A slight pepper note provides the necessary spice and an excellent balance. Towards the middle, it becomes more peppery and shows a little more character - or as I call it, it becomes "bitchy".
The click fastener is practical. It is used on all short products.
Storage recommendation
A little tip: If you put the cigarillo packs in your humidor and store them for a few months, the taste of the Wide Short will harmonize even further. I have tried it and can say that it is worth the wait! But I can say the same about the other shorts. It won't be any different with the new Wide Short.
Burn-off
I can only report good things about the burn-off: Problem-free and almost even. This is not always the case with machine-made cigarillos. Every now and then there is a wedge burn, but this corrects itself quickly.
My conclusion
The Cohiba Wide Short is a welcome addition for lovers of cigarillos and those who want to become one. It offers an interesting change from the classic short and impresses with its almost creamy, spicy taste. Definitely worth a try, especially for those who want to enjoy a rich tobacco flavor in their everyday life. The size is ideal for a short break without having to compromise on a full-bodied smoking experience.
So, if you're looking for a new cigarillo experience, give the Cohiba Wide Short a chance. Perhaps it will also become your new favorite for daily enjoyment.
