Caldwell Savages Corona Larga

Caldwell Savages Corona Larga in 3 test

Caldwell Savages Corona Larga in the 3 test. The second anilla reads: LLTK BEN. This Savages line is an extension of the LLTK Long Live The King line. The Savages Corona Larga is really long: 203 mm. It is so long that it can be too long for ashtrays. Well, if it doesn't fit, it's made to fit. And that's by sipping it slowly, which makes it smolder and smolder and smolder and smolder... By the way, there's a Boveda pouch in the box. Fantastic idea. This way the cigars always stay nicely moistened during transport. By the way: Here you can read the story about Robert Caldwell: The Swiss CALDWELL Story: Drugs, dropping out of school and the urge to master life.

A cigar test is subjective

Notice: How a cigar tastes is influenced by personal taste preferences, taste memories, the shape of the day, what you have eaten or drunk before. Even the lighting mood in the room has an influence on the experienced taste. The notes described here therefore do not have to match your own impressions.

Elegant and classic format. 203 mm in length. It does not fit this beautiful ashtray from Nüesch humidors. This is not a fault of the cigar. This is not a fault of the ashtray.

Personal impressions of enjoying the Caldwell Savages Corona Larga

First half of this Savages cigar

  • Tongue, palate: slightly salty and it gets saltier in the first half - super interesting / some pepper / a kind of "freshness"... no idea how I come up with it... every now and then comes such a little push of freshness... ah - now I know: I should close the window, it pulls. / Nutty and at the same time a little creamy
  • Retronasal: It smells and "tastes" like tree bark that you light. So not the complete wood, but only the bark.
  • R+ ZiZo vacuum technology: Salt / pepper and seasoning
  • Umami: slightly juicy and slightly fleshy
  • Strength 3/5

Savages second half

  • The salt minimizes / a lot of nut and a little less creamy / pepper with cocoa / super nice roasted aromas after very much coffee beans / definitely light wood and ...freshness... Oh, freshness, I should really close the window now!

The explanations on the insert show: CALDWELL is a little crazy. Great!

What is "retronasal"?

Retronasal cigar enjoyment enhances the taste. What it is and, why it works and how to do it please read here. Especially look at the ZiZo vacuum technology. Incredible increase in the enjoyment of the cigar!

Like this. Now it fits on the ashtray.

What is the "R+ ZiZo vacuum technology"?

This is the consummate pleasure of a cigar. Hard to describe. I'll try. Here's an example: a baby sucking on a pacifier. Try this technique with a cigar. Very little smoke enters the mouth. But this passes over the tongue and goes right through the nose. I tried it on about 10 cigars before I mastered it. Please be very careful with this technique when practicing: the smoke got to the back of my larynx several times when I did this. It was really bad. But now that I can do it, it's an accomplished technique for enjoying a cigar.

What is umami?

This means "savory", "spicy", "essence", "meaty". This blending of taste sensations is perceived in the middle of the tongue. You can find a good article about it on Wikipedia

Non Cuba cigars and the important acclimatization

Recommendation acclimatization: With cellophane 2 days in the humidor.

The fact is: You don't know when the cigar was imported and how long its resting period was at the importer. You also do not know how long the resting phase was at the dealer. The cigars have a shock after their transport from the tropics to us in Europe. They have to acclimatize first. The industry is sales-oriented. The cigars have to get to the retail market quickly. Therefore, it can happen that they do not taste as they should.

If you buy single copies

Place the cigar with the cellophane in the humidor. If your cigar does not have cellophane: Put them in tubos and then in the humidor. Or you can put the single cigar in a Zippo bag and put a small Boveda in it. Then you put it closed in the humidor. Cigars that are stored open without cellophane or a box lose their flavor very quickly. This is proven in this article with experiments.

Conclusion Caldwell Savages Corona Larga in 3s test

3 Savages copies I have tested of this format. Such a beautiful and elegant format. Very nice balance. A sort of tingle dancing on the tongue. What I found interesting about this Savages was my impression of nutty and creamy at the same time. Hard to describe: Like I was chewing nuts and drinking a coffee with its natural foam and rinsing my mouth. Just pure indulgence. Damn. CALDWELL can really make cigars.

The two anillas are a great match for the Savages wrapper. The paper is great and the colors are perfect. The draw resistance is optimal. The ash is reasonably stable. It does not last very long and some caution is advised. The burn is good to very good. The occasional wave burn corrects itself very quickly.

I really like this cigar. It is an eye-catcher because of its long and slim format and the two really nice anillas.
