Blind tasting at Cigar Club Sonne Sissach: an unforgettable experience

Cigar Club Sonne Sissach: Imagine yourself in the almost historic vaulted cellars of the Cigar Club's cigar lounge. On 23 May 2024, 16 enthusiastic cigar lovers experienced an event in a class of its own. Not only were we treated to an excellent meal, we were also able to savour a Gordo-sized cigar without knowing what we were actually smoking. The excitement and curiosity was palpable - the secret would only be revealed at the end. I was allowed to guide us through the programme.

During the smoke

Each participant received a cigar in Gordo format. It was assessed using the Zigarren.Zone Tasting Tool.

During the smoke we chatted animatedly about the cigar, the perfect combination with the wine and the delicious food. Questions were asked and I think I was able to answer them all well - so well, in fact, that I can now become a member of the club! This is not a matter of course, because you need the recommendations of the club members and in the end they decide together whether you are accepted or not. This club is not an elitist circle, but rather very nice and above all humorous people who meet here.

The secret is revealed

Do you see smoke? No? That's a good thing! Because the lounge has excellent ventilation!

Before the secret was revealed, I asked those present how much they would pay for this cigar. The estimates ranged from CHF 33 down to CHF 13.50. After around three hours, the time had finally come: I revealed the secret: we had smoked a ZINO NICARAGUA GORDO, which cost a whopping CHF 9.40. The astonishment was great, because the ratings were also impressive!

Using the Zigarren.Zone Tasting Tool, the participants rated the cigar while smoking. The results were between 4.22 and 4.77 points (out of a maximum of 5). This shows how convincing the cigar was. But that wasn't all: each participant received a ZINO Nicaragua beach bag with cape, a practical travel humidor, lighter and cutter and, of course, another Gordo cigar with cigar ring. These generous gifts were sponsored by Oettinger Davidoff in Basel, for which the participants would like to express their sincere thanks!

An excellent multi-course menu was served in small bites. Simply top!

The blind tasting was a complete success and an experience that we will not soon forget. So if you ever have the opportunity to take part in such an event, I can only warmly recommend it. It's worth it, not only because of the cigars, but also because of the wonderful community in the Cigar Club Sissach.
