Plasencia Cosecha 149 Toro test report

Plasencia Cosecha 149 Toro test report

Plasencia Cosecha 149 Toro and here is my review. The Toro got mighty bitchy from the halfway point. This is no fault of the cigar and it is simply awesome.

A cigar test is subjective

Note: How the cigar tastes is influenced by personal taste preferences, taste memories, the shape of the day, what you have eaten or drunk before. Even the lighting mood in the room has an influence on the experienced taste. The notes described here therefore do not have to match your own impressions.

The start is promising.

Personal impressions of pleasure

Recommended acclimatization: At least 4 weeks with cellophane in the humidor.

First half

  • Tongue, palate: An incredible amount of walnut / an incredible amount of bittersweet / citrusy (grapefruit) / a lot of wood with time / a lot of coffee beans with time / towards the end of the first half a very little caramel is added (as with the Robusto).
  • Retronasal: peppery / coffee beans full load / walnut, if you throw the shell in the fire, damn it
  • R+ ZiZo vacuum technology: Oh, stop it! AWESOME! AWESOME! AWESOME!
  • Umami: very meaty / roasted / juicy and at the same time somewhat astringent
  • Strength 4/5

Second half

  • The cigar is very complex. It is constantly evolving during the smoke. From about the second half, it becomes an enormous bitch, the stupid cow. This is no fault of the cigar! You can read more about this in the conclusion below.
  • Strength 4/5

I've never had so much walnut in a cigar before.

Conclusion of the Plasencia Cosecha 149 Toro

What a complex and cool cigar. I was already very enthusiastic about the Robusto. Just a very brief excursion to the Robusto: On 26.11.21 there was a pre-release event in Basel. Rodrigo Medina, the start of the industry, was there. After he did my R+ ZiZo technique, he got a Picasso face. You can read why here: Pre-release and test report of the Robusto.

I don't know why I also have a citrusy impression. I already had that with the Robusto.

Ok, let's move on to the Toro. What a beautiful cigar! I like the two anillas. The color matches the maduro wrapper beautifully. The tobacco is about 6 or 7 years old (I can't remember. Why, you can read in the Pre-release and test report of the Robusto). The tobacco is top quality. Rodrigo said at the event that the Coseca 149 is currently the most complex cigar at Plasencia. I share this opinion.

It is EXTREMELY rich in flavor. It is not possible to increase EXTREMELY because that is already a superlative. I'm now inventing a way to increase it: EXTREMELY PANGOMATIC-GEIL.

Don't do that.

So much walnut and wood, mixed with lots of sweet bittersweet - and this citrus - I have no idea how such a mixture comes about and how my brain presents me with these sensory impressions. Unbelievable. A full load of coffee beans, more wood over time and a little caramel.

I am very curious to see how this cigar will develop. Recommendation: Acclimatization of at least 4 weeks after purchase (with cellophane in the humidor).

The first corner of the ash did not hold. But the rest did, almost to the middle.

This is how I experienced the course of the Smoke: it climbs towards the summit and takes a short break. Then it climbs higher, higher, higher and takes another short break. Then it picks up again and climbs higher and higher. When I finally reach the summit, I'm exhausted. But very happy and exhausted.

The strength is 4/5, maybe even a 5/5 depending on the day. The draw resistance is too light.

From about halfway through, it becomes a mighty bitch. It becomes snappy and somewhat sharp and burns poorly. It burns out very quickly and burns faster in the middle. Around the last third, the stupid cow is finally broken in and becomes very friendly again.

This is not a fault of the cigar. It has been in Switzerland since 22.11.21 and I tested the specimen on 27.11.21. She urgently needs to acclimatize for at least 4 weeks. She has fantastic potential!

It burns normally again from about the last third and is no longer biting and no longer sharp. However, I have broken it in several times, which means that I have degassed it several times.

The cigar is very complex. I am so enthusiastic about the Plasencia Cosecha 149 that I have pre-ordered 2 boxes of each format. The price is very interesting: Gordito CHF 11.50 / Robusto CHF 12.50 / Toro CHF 13.50 (each in a box of 10).

It will be available in Switzerland in the course of January 22. In Germany, it will be available in December 22 and in Austria in spring 22.
