To emphasise the significance of this special moment, I imagine the marketing managers, the tobacco farmers, the master blenders and the industrial designers for the Davidoff boxes and rollers standing on a stage in front of a hall full of enthusiastic spectators. Thousands of people honour the dedication and passion that has gone into the creation of this collection for 12 years with thunderous applause and standing ovations lasting several minutes.

1) The creation of the cigar is determined by marketing. How many blend samples did you have before you said: „That's it!“

We had 4 different blend patterns, with the focus on the wrapper. In other words, how does it taste without a wrapper?

2) How long does such a process take: from the initial marketing ideas, the briefing to the master blenders, the samples, the tests to the decision?

Unfortunately, I cannot provide any information on this.

3) How was the missing cover piece cut? Was it rolled so precisely or was a cutting machine built to cut the cover so precisely after rolling?

Unfortunately there is no video for this. The cigar is rolled normally with the wrapper and then cut by hand with a sharp knife.

4) How did you even come up with the idea of cutting the cover page? That's a great idea!

On the one hand, the uncut section represents an exciting flavour experience -> first without wrapper and then with wrapper, which offers a different taste. Secondly, we wanted to represent the fire-breathing dragons -> the part without the wrapper represents the fire.

5) The blend is excellent and the cigar has a really great flavour. What can you tell us about the tobacco? Please, there must be a little secret, right?

It is the first time that we have created a blend with 8 different tobaccos and if you add up the years of the different tobaccos, you get 60, just like someone who was born in the dragon year 1964.

6) Which drink do you recommend for the Davidoff Year Of The Dragon 2024?

I recommend a Kir Royal. The fruity and slightly sweet notes of the Kir Royal go perfectly with the honey-sweet, nutty and dark chocolate notes.

The quality and flavour nuances of the Davidoff Year Of The Dragon 2024

The first impression of this cigar is the flawless finish and the beautiful wrapper. The flavours are complex and balanced, with notes of sweet spices, cedar wood and a hint of dark chocolate. The smoke is silky and creamy, and the cigar gradually develops into a true explosion of flavour.

Flavour with and without wrapper

The wrapper was not yet in play, and the cigar presented itself spicy-sour and very woody. It was a strong and intense start that immediately caught my attention.

You can taste the cigar without the wrapper for the first five minutes. A cigar without a wrapper tastes different to a cigar with a wrapper, as the wrapper contributes significantly to the flavour of a cigar.

But here comes the interesting twist - about five minutes after the wrapper came into play, the flavour changed significantly. The dominance of the spice receded into the background and a more harmonious flavour profile developed. Everything became softer and rounder, and even more interesting flavours were added.

The difference is noticeable just a few minutes after the wrapper has been added: the cigar becomes „rounder“ and „softer“ in flavour and acquires even more nuances of flavour.

I could perceive nuances of pepper, fruity sweetness, cocoa, wood and a slight acidity. The retronasal effect and the ZiZo R+ technique lent this masterpiece a deep complexity: intense notes of cocoa, wood and heavily roasted coffee beans unfolded here, almost spoiling my palate.
