La Casa del Habano Kreuzlingen & St. Gallen by Urs Portmann are launching the first travel humidor produced using Omnidor GmbH’s 3D printer.

There are things that are simply practical. And there are things that bring joy even before you’ve used them. The new Omnidor travel humidor from La Casa del Habano Kreuzlingen & St. Gallen by Urs Portmann falls into the second category. You pick it up, open it – and immediately a little picture forms in your mind: a sunny afternoon by the lake, a table in the shade, an espresso, a glass beside it, and the cigars, safely nestled like little treasures on a journey. And what’s more: it’s manufactured entirely using a 3D printer. To anyone thinking, „Oh, well, just another ugly bit of plastic…“, let me say: far from it! Designed and engineered by OMNIDOR GmbH in Rorschach.

From a Christmas present to an idea

It all began not with a business plan, but with an emotion. With a Christmas present. With the desire to create something personal. Something that doesn’t look like mass-produced goods, but rather like thoughtfulness, attention to detail, and the feeling that „I made this especially for you.“

Step by step, this idea grew into a vision. After all, a cigar is rarely associated with a hectic pace. It represents special moments. Conversations that are allowed to go on a little longer. Evenings when the phone is left off for once. The luxury of simply being there.

It was precisely these moments that we wanted to preserve. Not in an abstract or theoretical way, but in a very concrete one: in a travel humidor that protects cigars, accompanies memories and gives you a sense of comfort whilst travelling.

Straight from the 3D printer – but not from the toy box

Thoughtfully designed down to the last detail: there is space in the base for a small Boveda pack, ensuring that the cigars remain perfectly humidified even when you’re on the move. Integrated on the right: a cutter and a lighter.

The Omnidor is manufactured using state-of-the-art 3D printers. At first, that sounds rather technical, almost a bit futuristic. But when you hold it in your hand, the humidor feels anything but experimental. It feels sturdy, solid and robust. It’s not a flimsy plastic item that creaks indignantly on its first journey. The Omnidor feels more like a small piece of kit for connoisseurs: built for the road, but with style.

When travelling, I like to use aluminium tubes for my Cuban cigars. Not only do they protect the cigars from pressure and knocks, but they also help to preserve their aroma. Of course, Cuban cigars can also be transported in the Omnidor without aluminium tubes – in which case there’s room for even more of them.

The design is modern and practical – well thought out. I also like the colour combination. It gives the travel humidor character without being garish. It looks good, but it doesn’t scream for attention. It simply does its job – and does it very well.

All the edges, both inside and out, are perfectly rounded. Neither my fingers nor my cigars have suffered any damage during use.

The Omnidor isn’t just designed for Habanos. Non-Cuban cigars can also be transported safely and comfortably in it. They are well protected and always within easy reach. Depending on the vitola (size), it can hold up to 11 cigars.

The best bit: if something breaks, you don’t just throw it all away

I’ve put the travel humidor through its paces. It’s sturdy and easy to handle. And this is precisely where one of its strongest features comes to the fore: the Omnidor isn’t designed to be a disposable product.

Everything is in its place. The cutter and lighter are securely integrated and ready for use the moment the time is right for a cigar. What’s more, there are no sharp edges – everything is neatly rounded off. A small detail, but a very important one.

If a single part ever breaks, there’s no need to replace the whole humidor. A hinge that stops working properly at some point? No big deal. Order a replacement, swap it out, and you’re done. That’s not only practical, but also refreshingly modern. Because true quality isn’t just about something lasting a long time. It’s also about being able to repair it.

This modular approach fits perfectly with the philosophy behind Omnidor: products shouldn’t simply be replaced, but improved upon. Durability rather than a throwaway mentality. Engineering excellence rather than „just buy a new one“.

Boveda in the soil

A travel humidor must be able to do one thing above all else: reliably protect cigars. Not just from knocks, but also from dryness. To this end, the Omnidor features a recess in the base that accommodates a small Boveda. A small but important solution. The cigars are safely stored, and the humidity stays where it belongs.

Whether Robusto, Toro or Churchill: the interior layout accommodates a variety of sizes, making the Omnidor a versatile travel companion.

That’s exactly the sort of detail you come to appreciate when you’re on the move. After all, anyone who carries their cigars in a suitcase, in the car or in a travel bag doesn’t want to have to keep wondering whether everything still fits. You want to open the Omnidor and know: right, my cigars are ready.

Just a few more details

The Omnidor’s lid also features a built-in ashtray. It also includes a compartment for a lighter and a cutter. It’s a nice idea: everything a cigar lover needs when out and about is all in one place.

The lid features a built-in, removable ashtray. In my personal opinion (and yes, I’m a bit of a creep, I know), the design isn’t quite thought through; the cigar compartments could be a bit deeper. However, this is completely irrelevant to the actual purpose of the travel humidor. The ashtray serves its purpose, somehow (yes, I know, again: I’m a bit of a creep).

The Omnidor’s strength lies not in its ashtray, but in its superbly designed protection and transport of cigars. And that is precisely where it really comes into its own impressive from.

If a component wears out after heavy use, there is no need to replace the entire travel humidor straight away. Hinges, fastenings and other components can be reordered individually and replaced in just a few simple steps. A well-thought-out design that prioritises durability over a throwaway mentality.

Sturdy and practical

Overall, the Omnidor feels very well thought-out. It is solidly built, comfortable to use and visually appealing. It embodies modern manufacturing, high-quality materials and sustainable product development. But behind all the technical details lies a simple, beautiful idea: the true luxury of a cigar is not its price. The true luxury is the time you spend with it.

A glance at the hinge reveals the precision with which the Omnidor is manufactured. The print lines are even, the edges are cleanly finished, and the components look remarkably high-quality. Anyone who associates 3D printing with rough surfaces or makeshift solutions will be proven wrong here. The build quality is impressive and underlines the commitment to creating a durable and professional product.

And that is perhaps the best thing about this product. The Omnidor doesn’t pretend to reinvent the pleasure of smoking. It does something better: it protects it. It gives the cigar a safe place to stay when you take it on your travels. It preserves the moment.
