Chapter 4 marks the finale of ADV King's Gold

With chapter 4 comes ADV King's Gold into the finale. The creator and creative head of the brand, Marcel Knobel, has created something unique in the world of cigars: 4 chapters of an adventure trip around the cigar in the age of sailing ships and pirates in the 1490s. The anilla (cigar ring) is made of pewter. You can bend it and it is very robust. At last I have a decent ring!

Before we start

I have two copies of the Robusto on behalf of cigars-online.ch tested. I paired the second one with the Port wine Kopke Ruby Port. I have described the pairing in the conclusion of this article. I'm a bit tickled, hollallihollala...

You can find the chronicles of a cigar legend at adventuracigars.com > At the end of each of the three chapters it says: „To be continued...“ So we knew that after each chapter there would be another series from the ADV cigar brand. The fourth chapter, on the other hand, says at the end of the text: „End of chapter“. Well, if this is a story in four chapters, then we have to live with it and the series has come to an end.

However, if I know Marcel Knobel, these four chapters are the beginning of a great cigar legend.

Where else is he taking us? Perhaps far into the future this time?

Maybe it will soon be „To be continued...“ again. I found a mysterious note under the Anilla. I'm sure it's a clue to future stories about the ADV cigar brand.

Personal impressions of enjoying this Gold cigar

First half

• Tongue, palate: Somewhat sweet, nutty, cocoa (dark chocolate), wood, acidic
• Retronasalnutty, peppery, wood
• R+ ZiZo vacuum technology: peppery, wood
• Umami: Slightly spicy, slightly „furry“
• Strength 4/5

Second half

• Permanent increase - fantastic! Over time, there is even a slight sweetness to it. Reminds me of dark chocolate. Fantastic balance!

What is the „R+ ZiZo vacuum technology“?

This is the consummate pleasure of a cigar. Hard to describe. I'll try. Here's an example: a baby sucking on a dummy. Try this technique with a cigar. Very little smoke gets into the mouth. But it passes over the tongue and goes straight through the nose. I tried it with about 10 cigars before I mastered it. Please be very careful with this technique when practising: the smoke hit the back of my larynx several times. That was really bad. But now that I can do it, it's a perfect technique for enjoying a cigar.

What is umami?

This means „savouriness“, „spicy“, „essence“, „meaty“. This mixture of taste sensations is perceived on the centre of the tongue. You can find a good article about this on Wikipedia. 

Acclimatisation recommendation: The cigars are already very well acclimatised and can be enjoyed immediately after purchase. If you want to be sure: Leave the ADV Kings‘ Gold Robusto in cellophane in the humidor for a week.

Non Cuba cigars and the important acclimatisation process

The fact is: you don't know when the cigar was imported and how long it rested with the importer. You also don't know how long the resting phase was at the retailer. Cigars are in shock after being transported from the tropics to Europe. They have to acclimatise first. The industry is sales-orientated. The cigars have to be sold quickly. Therefore, they may not taste as they should. I recommend a general acclimatisation period in your humidor of at least 2 weeks after purchase. Depending on the brand and series, even longer, which I emphasise in this article.

If you buy single copies

Place the cigar with the cellophane in the humidor. If your cigar does not have cellophane: Put them in tubos and then in the humidor. Or you can put the individual cigars in a Zippo bag and put a small Boveda inside. You then seal it and place it in the humidor. Cigars that are stored open without cellophane or a box lose their flavour very quickly. This is demonstrated in this article with experiments.
