Review Villiger 1888 Nicaragua Gordo
Review Villiger 1888 Nicaragua Gordo / The new Gordo from the line Villiger 1888 Nicaragua rightly bears its nickname: „The Mighty“. With a proud ring gauge of 60 and a length of 152 mm, it is not only a visual statement, but also offers a balanced journey through the world of flavours - albeit not without a few challenges. I tested three examples.

Gordo (6×60), also affectionately known as „the mighty one“.
A powerful appearance
The Gordo feels full and good in the hand. The glossy Ecuador wrapper shimmers dark brown and promises depth. When you take your first puff, you immediately realise that this cigar does not want to impress with its volume, but with its inner strength.

I have tested three of them and am already very excited!
Tradition meets modernity - and an American twist
The special thing about this cigar is the Viso from Pennsylvania - a rather rare choice that gives the blend additional flavour and depth. Combined with medium-bodied tobaccos from Nicaragua, the result is a harmonious but not boring smoke.

Price: 12,00 EUR / piece // CHF 15,00 / piece. A lot of cigar for the money.
First half: balance with a clear line
The first half of the Villiger 1888 Nicaragua Gordo review is surprisingly linear - in the best sense of the word. Nothing imposes itself, everything remains in harmony: a light sweetness, a hint of leather, gentle spice. No wild corners, no loud start - rather a leisurely immersion into the pleasure of smoking. This is the signature of a blender who favours balance.

Second half: Wood, sweetness, earth - the soul of the Gordo
We continue with the review Villiger 1888 Nicaragua Gordo. The Gordo picks up noticeably in the second third. The flavours are now more pronounced: woody notes appear, accompanied by a pleasant sweetness that is slightly reminiscent of honey. However, the earthy component is the strongest - it gives the cigar character and depth. It is as if it is now opening up after the leisurely start, almost like a conversation between old friends that only gains depth over time.

Towards the end, things get exciting: the flavours vary and subtle bitter notes reminiscent of dark chocolate are added.
Last third: Nuanced final round
Things get exciting towards the end: the flavours vary, adding subtle bitter notes reminiscent of dark chocolate. At the same time, the sweetness remains present - almost caramel-like - and gives the finish a rounded aftertaste.
Is there room for improvement with the wrapper? Or the binder?
As pleasing as the aromatic development was, the fire acceptance was not always optimal. I had to make several corrections with the flame, as a wave burn formed - on all three examples. Although this didn't interfere with the enjoyment, you have to be careful that the wave burn doesn't last too long and the flavour could suffer as a result. I can't say whether this is due to the wrapper or binder. It was not due to the filler, as the burn cone was perfectly centred and testifies to rolling quality of the highest order.
Conclusion: A cigar with character and charm
The Villiger 1888 Nicaragua Gordo is not a cigar for the hectic pace of everyday life. It requires time, attention and a little patience when correcting. In return, it rewards the aficionado with a wonderfully fine development of flavour. A medium-bodied beauty that is a pleasure to smoke despite its minor flaws - and has the potential to become a new classic in the line.
