Review Villiger 1888 Nicaragua Coronita - A surprising tasting experience

The Villiger 1888 Nicaragua Coronita is a cigar with history and prestige. Since its market launch, it has not only delighted connoisseurs, but has also impressed the experts. Its connection to the Villiger 1888 Dominican Republic, which was the first cigar to bear the Villiger name in 2008, is exciting. The Villiger 1888 Nicaragua continues this legacy and at the same time heralds a new era at the Villiger factory in Nicaragua. In my personal 3-way test, the Coronita scored a solid 88 points. External impression

The Coronita presents itself with a silky, mid-brown wrapper leaf that has an inviting appearance. Before lighting up, there were dusty, earthy notes on the palate, accompanied by a subtle hint of spice. This elegance continues during the lighting process - the draw behaviour was optimal and the burn proved to be even.

Flavour and smoke progression

The first puffs brought a pleasantly mild, floral flavour with subtle fruity notes. As the smoke progressed, nuances of cedar and dark cocoa unfolded, giving the flavour a complex, rich dimension. The smoke was harmonious, with a slight increase in intensity towards the end.

Assessment and categorisation

In my personal 3-way test, the Coronita scored a solid 88 points. Interestingly, this rating is slightly below the 91 points awarded by Cigar Journal, which ranked the cigar 17th among the best new releases of 2023. This shows the subjectivity of enjoyment, especially with such a characterful cigar.

The Coronita is proof that Villiger masterfully combines not only tradition but also innovation. Whether you want to be inspired by history or simply enjoy an excellent smoke, the Villiger 1888 Nicaragua Coronita is a highly recommended choice.
