Review Macanudo Emissary Espana - A cigar with rare Spanish tobacco

The cigar ring is a real eye-catcher: dark blue with elegantly embossed gold, perfectly matched to the dark Broadleaf Claro wrapper from the USA, which has been aged for five years.

My Review Macanudo Emissary Espana has honestly surprised me positively - even though I was skeptical at the beginning. When I read that Spanish and Colombian tobacco was used in the filler, a little warning light went on inside me. Why? Quite simply, Spanish tobacco is an absolute rarity in the cigar world, and when it is used, expectations are correspondingly high - or low. Colombian tobacco, on the other hand, is known for its mild aroma, but is rarely used in premium blends. But this is precisely where the danger lies - if you don't test a cigar blindly, but read the data sheets beforehand, you will inevitably be biased. 90 points! By the way: I know of course that you write "España" and not "Espana". But SEO wants me to write "Espana". 😅

Review Macanudo Emissary Espana: Three tested, 90 points awarded

This made it all the more important for me to smoke my review Macanudo Emissary Espana completely unbiased. So I grabbed three examples of the ROBUSTO to get as clear a picture as possible. And I can say in advance: If I were to award points, this cigar would have smooth 90 points achieved. A really great cigar with a convincing taste.

The first impression - look and feel

Even before the lighter is used, the Macanudo Emissary visually impressive. The broadleaf wrapper from the USA, aged for a full five years, has an even, silky-matt surface with subtle veins. Fine woody notes, a hint of sweet nuts and a hint of caramel. The finish is flawless - no soft spots, no overfilling, everything perfectly rolled.

Personally, I don't like the color of the second ring at all. The idea of a mountain silhouette is nice, but it doesn't look coherent to me. Review Macanudo Emissary Espana

The start to smoking pleasure

When lit, it immediately develops a Wonderfully balanced variety of flavorsRoasted cedar wood, creamy, gentle sweetness and a hint of subtle coffee. The remarkable thing: Nothing imposes itself, nothing seems exaggerated. Instead, there is a perfectly balanced interplay - almost like an orchestra in which each instrument knows its place.

The first puffs are soft, almost creamy in texture, yet intense enough to captivate the palate. The smoke is full-bodied without being heavy. This already indicates that the Macanudo Emissary is a long-distance runner - a cigar that develops over time.

The room note - i.e. the scent of the smoke - is pleasantly spicy. Review Macanudo Emissary Espana

The centerpiece - Rare Spanish tobacco

The real star of this cigar is the Rare tobacco from Spain, aged for ten years. Grown near Riolobos, in a region with rocky soil and a Mediterranean climate, this tobacco has characteristics that are hard to find elsewhere. Hot, dry summers alternate with mild, damp winters - perfect conditions for slow, even leaf growth.

This Spanish tobacco has an unmistakable depth of aroma - slightly earthy, delicately spicy and yet elegant. It is the foundation on which the rest of the composition is built.

It glows evenly and slowly. In all three specimens, the tobacco was slightly swollen in the middle - only about half a centimeter long and without any negative influence on the taste. Review Macanudo Emissary Espana

The tobacco, the composition - Five countries, one goal

In addition to the Spanish centerpiece, the Macanudo Emissary The following tobaccos are used:

  • Wrapper leaf: Broadleaf Claro USA (matured for 5 years)***
  • Wrapper: Nicaragua (matured for 6 years)
  • Inlay: Spain (matured for 10 years), Dominican Republic (matured for 5 years), Colombia (matured for 6 years), Nicaragua (matured for 6 years)

All tobaccos are aged for between five and ten years - a maturation period that is immediately noticeable in the taste. The combination ensures a complex aroma structure that ranges from creamy mildness to gentle spiciness.

*** Cover sheet confusion: Why the Macanudo Emissary is more of a Maduro than a Claro

Why the wrapper has the additional designation "Claro" is a mystery to me. "Claro" actually stands for a particularly light-colored wrapper leaf. Here, however, we have a dark, five-year matured specimen which, strictly speaking, should rather be described as "Maduro".

During my research I found out the following: "US Broadleaf" usually refers to Connecticut Broadleaf. This tobacco comes from the Connecticut River Valley. It has broad leaves, is grown in direct sunlight and darkens considerably after fermentation. Connecticut Broadleaf is known for its sweet, earthy and rich flavors in Maduro cigars. The term can also refer to other broadleaf varieties, but Connecticut Broadleaf is the most famous and sought-after variety for wrappers and binder leaves in premium cigars.

Exactly. Maduro. As I wrote. I'm not stupid, am I?

In the course of smoking - from not quite linear to slightly dynamic

What is that supposed to mean? The Macanudo Emissary Espana is a cigar that you smoke consciously. It does not force itself on you, but gradually unfolds its qualities. In my three test samples, the smoking process was mostly linear - which is pleasant for many connoisseurs. Nevertheless, there is a slight increase in intensity in the last third, especially in the spice.

The woody and nutty notes remain constantly present, while the sweetness recedes somewhat and gives way to a subtle cocoa note. The coffee remains discreetly in the background, but supports the overall picture perfectly.

If all three cigars hadn't been subject to repeated crooked burns that had to be corrected with the flame, the cigar would have scored 94 points.

My conclusion - an experience, not an incidental pleasure

Enjoyment right to the end!

Enjoyment right to the end!

The Macanudo Emissary is more than just a cigar - it is an experience. It combines rare Spanish tobacco with exquisite leaves from four other countries to create a harmonious composition that will delight lovers of fine cigars.

It is uncomplicated enough to enjoy without much ceremony, but at the same time refined enough to reveal its depth on closer inspection. For me, it is a perfect cigar for the early evening, when you take the time to consciously perceive the aromas.

With 90 points In my personal rating, it is a clear recommendation for all those who are curious about rare tobacco origins and value mature, balanced blends.
