The Churchill is a classic among the formats: long, elegant and designed for extended smoking pleasure. With the La Capitana Churchill you get a cigar that doesn't try to reinvent the wheel, but rather impresses with its classic elegance. The light-coloured, silky Ecuador wrapper is a real eye-catcher and makes you want to take your first puff. Oh yes, one more thing: La Capitana comes from Villiger, so here is another long-filler premium cigar from Villiger.

Origin and concept

The binder comes from Nicaragua and the filler comes from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. An exciting mix that provides a certain depth without making the cigar too strong. On the contrary: the strength is 2/5 and the wrapper from Ecuador has a light-coloured elegance that is not found in every Churchill. In conceptual terms, La Capitana therefore strikes a balance between elegance and uncomplicated smoking pleasure.

Look, feel and finish

The wrapper looks high quality, bright and silky. However, I have to say that with the paper from the cigar ring I don't like it (I know, that's a purely subjective thing). It is shiny and looks almost cheap compared to the wrapper. It's a shame, because a different paper would have made the cigar look even stronger. The workmanship of the cigar itself is impeccable: cleanly rolled and without flaws. It sits comfortably in the hand and makes a high-quality impression.

Tasting notes Review La Capitana Churchill

First half

As soon as it is lit, the Perfect train neither too harsh nor too relaxed, simply ideal. The smoke immediately reveals Wood and leather flavours, which lay a stable foundation. This is complemented by a very light, creamy texture that makes the smoke soft and pleasant.

Retronasal, the flavours become clearer: coffee and a slight spiciness come to the fore, giving the cigar character. In the background, there are always flashes of salty accent which makes the whole thing exciting.

Second half

In the second half, the La Capitana Churchill slightly more intense, but always remains balanced. There is hardly any bitterness, rather a fine Delicately bitter note, which fits perfectly into the overall picture. Herbal and grass flavours are subtle, almost playful, without becoming dominant. Nutty notes and a hint of coffee remain present, giving the cigar a consistent and harmonious flavour.

• Smoking duration: Typically Churchill long, ideal for an extended evening. It took me just over 90 minutes.

Smoking behaviour and combustion

This is where the cigar shows its true strength: the burn is long and straight, almost as if drawn with a ruler. I didn't have to make a single correction. Plus a dense, aromatic smoke that rounds off the experience perfectly. Just sit back and enjoy - that's how it should be.

Storage and maturing potential

Even in its current form, La Capitana Churchill is absolutely smokable and a pleasure to smoke. Longer ageing could round off the creamy and woody notes even more, but this is not absolutely necessary. It is a cigar that is already convincing.

The La Capitana Churchill is a 90-point cigar and an absolutely solid companion. It does not aim to produce an explosion of flavours, but convinces through Balance, honesty and uncomplicated enjoyment. For beginners, it offers a gentle introduction to the world of Churchills, for advanced users it is a relaxed choice for moments when you just want to enjoy yourself.

In terms of flavour, La Capitana delivers exactly what you would expect from a good Churchill: classic flavours, reliable smoking behaviour and a lot of relaxation.
