What makes a beautiful cigar picture?

To take a closer look, each motif initially creates a basic mood for itself. A motif's appearance or texture already determines whether it should appear cool or warm, soft or rigid, mysterious, cozy or inviting, for example.

Since cigars are a purely natural product, the way they are made, underlined by the detailed workmanship, automatically gives me a warm and caring feeling as an observer.

If you compare this with an object made of metal or plastic, for example, properties such as coldness and hardness are often dominant.

I think the right staging of a cigar can create a special atmosphere

We all see a cigar as a means of enjoyment, a tasteful companion in our lives. It often acts as a kind of reward for good performance or as an appreciation for a beautiful moment that we are experiencing and we would like to capture this feeling in a photo and share it with others!

A cigar picture can convey many different impressions to the viewer

The cigar - in the background

These photos show the viewer a snapshot of your daily life. You are smoking your cigar at the Italian restaurant around the corner, or rather at home in your lounge, on the balcony or in your garden with a piece of cake. Maybe you're on vacation, relaxing by the pool, or enjoying the evening with your friends over a cold beer.

You have a juicy steak on the barbecue at the same time as smoking, or a delicious sushi platter is served up. But the daily walk with your dog can also be such a wonderful moment.
These photos often look the most natural without elaborate image editing.

You take the viewer into a scenario from your everyday life, where the clothes or hairstyle may not fit properly... which simply makes you seem even more likeable as a person.

The cigar is in the picture, but does not obtrusively move into the foreground, but rather acts as an accessory which finally contributes to a beautiful overall shot.

The cigar - in focus

In these shots, the cigar is brought into focus using the correct exposure.

This type of image can be further enhanced if the background of the photo is shrouded in a veil of mist, this blurring is called the bokeh effect.

Impressive.

To do this, you need to use a fast lens and an open aperture on a single-lens reflex camera, for example. But you can also create a small bokeh effect with a cell phone camera. To do this, get close to a cigar, the camera then only has the option of focusing on a small point and everything behind it becomes pleasantly blurred (e.g. in portrait mode).

In such photos, the cigar automatically moves into the foreground, making the typical characteristics even more visible to the viewer.

Makes you want to grab it right away, doesn't it?

Here we are talking, for example, about the length, thickness and shape of a cigar...which can give the experienced cigar smoker an initial insight into the formats or the different ring sizes. The color and finish of the wrapper (light or dark) and its veining is always a nice eye-catcher. The cigar's wrapper (band) often comes into focus in these pictures, allowing the viewer to recognize the brand, among other things, which can be very helpful when considering a purchase.

The different cutting techniques can be seen in pictures of the cigar head, but the burn (ash cylinder) at the base of the cigar is also always a very popular motif. These pictures are often embellished with the corresponding drinks or various cigar accessories (such as ashtrays, drills, cutters, lighters or cases).

With a suitable background and selective exposure, subsequent processing of depth, luminance, vignette, warmth and sharpness, among other things, you can quickly achieve an atmospheric effect with such cigar shots.

I'm not a trained photographer and I'm far from being professionally equipped in terms of technical possibilities. I see photography more as a kind of hobby, it gives me pleasure.
I also enjoy capturing my moments of pleasure in a beautiful photo and sharing them with other cigar lovers here at Zigarren.Zone.

With this in mind, I wish you all a good time smoking and taking photos!

Greetings Freddy
