La Flor de Cano Petit Corona - A treasure from 2020, rare and sought-after today
When it comes to Cuban cigars, La Flor de Cano Petit Corona is a must - at least if you look back to 2020. Back then, I had the pleasure of tasting this cigar and was immediately impressed. But as is so often the case in the world of Cuban cigars, some treasures are hard to unearth: In 2024, the La Flor de Cano Petit Corona is either impossible or very difficult to find. A cigar that doesn't claim to be perfect, but still tastes incredibly good - that's exactly what this Cuban beauty is all about.

The first impression: floral, earthy and simply delicious
The very first puffs show that La Flor de Cano Petit Corona offers a wonderfully balanced flavour with floral, grassy and earthy notes. There is also a pleasant cedar note, which gives the flavour a certain depth. Retronasally, a hint of forest floor unfolds, which reinforces the impression of a natural, unadulterated world of flavours. The strength remains pleasantly mild at 2/5, making it the perfect accompaniment for a relaxing moment.

The second half: sweet cedar, cocoa and a hint of roasted flavours
The La Flor de Cano Petit Corona develops even more depth as it progresses: cedar and cocoa become more intense, along with a sweetish note and a grassy-herbal flavour. An interesting mixture of forest floor, earth and roasted flavours reminiscent of burning straw now unfolds retronasally. The strength increases slightly to 2.5/5 and remains pleasantly balanced.

Maturing time - a must for Cuban cigars
An important tip for anyone who wants to enjoy Cuban cigars: The maturing phase. Cuban cigars are super tasty for a short time after rolling, but then the maturing phase sets in. The tobacco only develops fully over the years, with the ideal resting time being between 2 and 8 years or more, depending on the cigar and format. So my advice: even if it's difficult, give your Cuban cigars the time they need in the humidor - the flavours will thank you.
When storing individual specimens, it is best to store them in tubes or sealed in a bag with a small Boveda packet in the humidor. This preserves the quality.

Conclusion: La Flor de Cano - a highlight that you won't forget
La Flor de Cano Petit Corona was a real discovery for me. I had it on my radar in 2020 and the tasting delighted me. Although it needs around two years to mature, it was surprisingly flavourful even when young. The three specimens tested did have a slightly „prickly“ flavour over time, but this is part of its character and is not a fault.
It's just a shame that this cigar is now so hard to find. So if you are lucky enough to find a La Flor de Cano Petit Corona, you should go for it - and look forward to a special flavour experience.
