What makes Figurado cigars special?

They differ from the straight parejo (flat or slightly rounded head) due to their special shape. Figurado cigars require the utmost precision when rolling to ensure a perfect draw.

The five sub-formats of Figurado

1. belicoso:

  • Same diameter from foot to head, with a slight taper at the head.
  • Cap is not very pointed and the taper is shorter than on a torpedo.

2. perfecto:

  • Both ends are tapered.
  • The narrow end of the cigar foot sometimes makes lighting difficult, although it is said that it would be easier. I don't think it's easier. Rolling a tapered cigar head requires the highest level of craftsmanship. At the beginning, the cigar often burns unevenly because there is less tobacco in the tip. Only when the wider part is reached does the burn stabilize. However, if the cigar burns evenly right from the start, this is evidence of exceptional care in rolling - the tip has also been provided with sufficient and perfectly placed tobacco.

3rd torpedo:

  • Same diameter from foot to head, but with a more pointed and longer head than the Belicoso.
  • This VegaFina is incorrectly referred to as a "pyramid", but is in fact a torpedo.

4. piramides (or pyramid):

  • Tapers (sometimes almost imperceptibly) from the foot to the head and has a pointed end. Often incorrectly called a torpedo.

5. culebras:

  • Three intertwined cigars, originally from the Philippines. They mature like a thick cigar and can be smoked individually or together. So they say. Well, I've never managed to smoke an intertwined Culebras, they all smoldered unevenly and I couldn't finish them.

  1. What is it called when the cigar is only narrow at the foot?
So far I have only seen it on the Oliva Series V 135th anniversary edition

  2. My favorite is the Licenciados Perfectos.
This beautiful cigar was unfortunately discontinued many years ago.
Bought back then from Peter Heinrichs in Cologne. A beautiful reminder of the old homeland.
    Unfortunately, I only have 5 left 😥

      1. That's right, it's a 100% Nicaragua. Nicaragua is my favorite after Cuba.
For your 11th ZIZO birthday, I'd love to give you one or two 😉

        1. Ahoy Joerg, uff? That's more than generous of you! I'll be at Man's World in the cigar lounge in Zurich on 01.02. from about 12 noon. If you're there too, that would be great.
