After twelve years and editions dedicated to the Chinese zodiac calendar, Davidoff surprises its aficionados worldwide. The Davidoff The Year of Collector's Edition celebrates the first complete zodiac cycle. With this extraordinary collection, Davidoff honors the tradition of limited annual editions.
Each of the trays contains one of the Year Of collections from 2013 to 2024.
The trays are of course individually labeled. Wonderful idea!
Davidoff and the Chinese zodiac
The 12 collections 2013 - 2024.
In 2012, Davidoff launched the Cuveé Selection 2012, inspired by the Year of the Dragon, exclusively in Asia. Given the great interest, the Year of the Snake Edition followed in 2013, launching Davidoff's global series of limited edition cigars. This zodiac-inspired series emphasizes Davidoff's dedication to uniqueness and quality.
Anyone who buys one of the 100 copies can count themselves lucky. But you would even have to buy two copies: One to smoke, one to collect.
The Davidoff Year of the Dragon Limited Edition from 2024 completes this first full zodiac cycle. The cigar creations reflect the characteristics of the signs of the zodiac in their format, blend and innovative box. "We translate the unique traits of each sign into the design, formats and flavors of our cigars," explains Edward Simon, CMO at Oettinger Davidoff. Larger zodiac signs such as Horse and Dragon inspired large format cigars. "The Rabbit-Perfecto slowly develops depth and complexity, similar to the hare."

The Davidoff The Year of Collector's Edition is presented in a unique cabinet consisting of 12 wooden trays and a handsome red case. The square shape of the trays is inspired by Chinese rituals such as the tea ceremony.
Each tray holds eight cigars of each Limited Edition and is engraved in gold with the sign of the zodiac, the year of release and the cigar format. An elegant lid with the Limited Edition pattern protects the cigars. Each tray can be removed individually and stored in a humidor.
The unique look of the 12 trays stacked on top of each other is another highlight of the edition. Accordingly, it immediately evokes associations with the pagoda, a typical element of the Asian architectural landscape. To underline the exclusivity of this masterpiece, Davidoff has attached a plate with the engraved serial number to the case.

Now the interested observer wonders whether Davidoff slaughtered unsold boxes for this, perhaps even recalled some from depositors, used the overstock or re-produced them.
It is well known that other Year Of cigars also hold tastings with retailers and selected media representatives and aficionados before release. Will the cigars come from the limited boxes? I believe there are also bundle products here, which of course are not supposed to be marketed in this way. Even my Year of the Tiger Masterpiece was oddly enough in a Year of the Rabit Masterpiece box when I was allowed to take it out.
Whatever. The tower is impressive and, given the number of examples, I will probably only see it in photos. But who knows ...
Very good thoughts! Years ago there was an AVO collection that contained several years of limited editions. At the time, the marketing text gave the impression that these were tagged cigars from the respective years. In reality, however, the cigars were produced retrospectively with the same blend. Customers didn't think that was so cool. With this Davidoff Year Of collection from the last 12 years, it would of course be the highlight if Davidoff had planned something like this from the start and produced the cigars in the respective years accordingly. Who can you get to unwrap them? 😅
What would the buyer of this collection prefer? Cigars from the respective years or a new edition of the blends? Opinions are definitely divided here. Therefore, leave this question mysteriously unanswered, so everyone would be satisfied and myths can grow...
