Por Larrañaga 35th Anniversary Regional Edition (Germany) as a Double Corona

With the Por Larrañaga 35th Anniversary Regional Edition (Germany) 5TH Avenue has announced a new regional edition for Germany. This speciality is available from La Casa del Habano and Habanos Specialists retailers. The launch marks the 35th anniversary of the Habanos importer. The cigar is available in the Prominente or Double Corona format, measuring 194 mm in length with a ring gauge of 49, and is sold exclusively in cabinet boxes containing 50 cigars each.

The run is limited to 2,000 numbered boxes. This brings the total production to 100,000 cigars. The price per cigar is EUR 35.00.

What's new?

A new feature is the combination of Por Larrañaga, the Prominente format and the German regional edition. Por Larrañaga has already used 5TH Avenue on several occasions for regional editions, though previously in different formats: Cervantes (Lonsdale) in 2006, Robusto in 2010 and Corona in 2017. The 35 Aniversario now continues this series with a significantly longer cigar. It is also presented in numbered cabinets of 50.

Each Por Larrañaga 35 Aniversario cabinet contains 50 double Coronas. The large box draws on a traditional method of presenting and storing Cuban cigars.

Why is this interesting?

The chosen size of the Prominente (Doppelcorona), measuring 194 mm in length, is one of the larger classic sizes of Cuban cigars. Due to its volume and the amount of tobacco it contains, this size creates physically different conditions for combustion and smoke flow compared with smaller sizes.

Choosing a 50-cigar cabinet box also has practical implications for storage. The close proximity of the cigars creates a microclimate within the wooden packaging that promotes long-term maturation. The exchange processes between the tobacco leaves take place more slowly and more evenly in large containers than in small crates or individual packets.

Por Larrañaga was founded in 1834. For the German Regional Edition, 5THAvenue combines this traditional Habanos brand with the 194 mm-long Prominente format.

A Habanos brand steeped in history

Por Larrañaga was founded in 1834 and is therefore one of the historic names in the Cuban cigar industry. According to 5THAvenue, it is the oldest Habanos brand still in continuous production today. You can read about the history of Por Larrañaga on our website, Origin of Cigar.

In the 19th century, the brand was widely known internationally. The press release highlights its presence in shops, restaurants and hotels across several continents, as well as its position in the premium price segment at that time. The writer Rudyard Kipling is also quoted as having said of the brand: «There is peace in a Larrañaga.»

With the new Regional Edition, 5THAvenue is thus marking two anniversaries: its own 35th anniversary and that of one of the oldest Habanos brands still in production.
