Asylum April Fools 9×90 the thickest cigar in the world

Asylum April Fools 9×90 is the thickest cigar in the world. Today I would like to report on my experiences with the Asylum April Fools 90×9 cigar. Originally intended as an April Fools' joke, it has found its way into the production line due to its popularity with customers. It is undoubtedly a real eye-catcher, because with its imposing dimensions of 90×9 (36mm diameter x length 228 mm), it represents a real challenge for cigar lovers. The manufacturer Christian L. Eiroa is crazy 😅

Asylum April Fools

I have never puffed such a thick and long cigar!

The cutting of the Asylum April Fools 9×90

Asylum April Fools

Cutting only works with a knife, scissors or puncher.

Asylum April Fools

I cut them with a knife to make sure that all the air ducts were clear.

Asylum April Fools

In hindsight, I'd rather recommend the puncher; smoking becomes much easier.

Before I go into the flavour of the cigar, I would like to emphasise that the cutting requires an unusual approach. Conventional clipping methods fail due to the size of the cigar, so I recommend using either a knife or a puncher. I opted for the knife to make sure all the air channels were clear, but in hindsight I would recommend the puncher. It makes smoking much easier.

The lighting

Asylum April Fools

Holy cow!

Of course, you need a lot of patience with this diameter! After a long „roasting phase“, the time had finally come. The first puffs were also challenging until Asylum April Fools 9×90 glowed evenly.

The puffing of the Asylum April Fools 9×90

Asylum April Fools

Smoking time: Over three hours.

When I took my first puff, I quickly realised that handling this giant cigar was a particular challenge. I had to completely enclose the cigar with my lips, which was not easy at all due to the diameter. Smoking was therefore more awkward than usual.

Smoking it for more than three hours would be a mammoth task, even for experienced aficionados. I smoked about a third of the cigar.

Asylum April Fools

It smoulders excellently and for a long time. The Asylum April Fools 90×9 is excellently rolled.

The flavour

Asylum April Fools

You need a large ashtray 😅

In terms of flavour, the giant cigar cannot quite keep up with its size. The first third reveals light nutty, woody, peppery and slightly bitter cocoa notes, accompanied by a slightly acidic component. Although there is nothing wrong with the quality of the tobaccos used, I personally found the depth and sophistication that I find in other premium cigars lacking. But that's not a problem, because it tastes good and is a real eye-catcher! 😅

The quality

Asylum April Fools

Perfectly rolled. Look at the even tip after ashing!

Nevertheless, I would like to emphasise that the Asylum April Fools 90×9 is excellently rolled. The draw resistance is very light and it smoulders excellently and for a long time. The ash is compact and stable. It is undoubtedly ideal for a special occasion or as a conversation piece at a meeting with cigar lovers.

All in all, I think the Asylum April Fools 90×9 is an interesting experiment that will certainly appeal to cigar lovers. Anyone looking for an unusual cigar to add to their collection and cause a stir should definitely give it a try.

  1. A blatant thing. I myself smoked the Presidente Robusto 30 with a diameter of 30mm and a length of 125mm. It was also a nice experience but not a complete pleasure. Incidentally, there is a 50mm diameter version of this brand. There is also a nice video on Youtube on how to smoke it. Too much for me though...

    1. Such giant cigars are excellent for marketing the brand and I really like that. However, they are not a pleasure for me personally. 😅

  2. Wonderful stick, a guaranteed challenge! I'm just imagining that you get into a traffic conniption with this thing in the car, the interior too fogged up. (Like Cheech & Chong „A lot of smoke for nothing“) Driver's side window down, thick clouds of smoke billowing out of the car, the cheroot hanging from the corner of your mouth. Another strong puff, blow it out and then the speech: „Well, constable, what's the problem...“ Head cinema, I throw myself away, the expression on the traffic policeman's face: priceless!

    1. 🤣 Recently at a police checkpoint. Policeman: „Drugs, alcohol, cigars?“ - Me: „Uff, no thanks, I've already had enough today!“ Or alternatively ME: „I resent this begging!“ 🤣
