La Aurora 120 Anniversary Edition Robusto: Like warm chocolate pudding

The La Aurora 120 Anniversary Edition Robusto is a real gem that I recently came across: I had the pleasure of testing three examples of this anniversary cigar, and what can I say - 91 ZiZo pleasure points are more than deserved! What's with the warm chocolate pudding?

Before lighting

The cigars are individually wrapped in a cedar leaf. This looks very classy.

Even the wrapper of this cigar is an experience in itself: silky and oily at the same time. How this is supposed to work is a mystery to me, but it does! The construction is absolutely even and brace yourselves: the flavour before lighting up reminded me of warm chocolate pudding! Yes, you read that right. Where are we going with this!

The 20 Robusto box costs CHF 220.00 - a very fair price! The cigars are packed in cellophane.

The first half of the La Aurora 120 Anniversary Edition Robusto

I tested three Robusto cigars.

Lighting up is easy and the draw resistance is optimal - a real pleasure right from the start. The cigar burns evenly for the first few minutes. After that, I had to correct the slightly crooked burn several times with the flame. The strength is medium, about 3 out of 5 on the scale, and the flavour is pleasant. The flavour - or as it is also known, the room note - is spicy and seductive.

The cigar ring is of high quality and matches the overall appearance very well.

In terms of flavour, the first half offers an exciting mixture: sweet, slightly nutty, slightly peppery, spicy and with a strong note of cedar wood. No wonder, as the cigar is wrapped in a cedar leaf. There are also woody and slightly acidic tones, which together create an outstanding balance.

A fantastic balance! Not only does it sit well on the lighter, the tobacco blend is also perfectly balanced.

The second half and the final

It smokes properly! 😅

The La Aurora 120 Anniversary Edition Robusto is constantly evolving. It gets even better in the second half: sweeter and woodier with an additional note of peat or earth. Simply brilliant!

A real treat.

The finish of this cigar is a real highlight and leaves a lasting impression. It remains interesting and balanced until the last puff. An excellent cigar that I can warmly recommend.

For 120 years, La Aurora has been producing high-quality cigars that stand on the shoulders of tradition. The best way to celebrate 120 years and this anniversary is to launch an incredibly unique cigar that is the result of the knowledge, passion, creativity and pursuit of excellence of each and every member of the La Aurora family. The La Aurora 120 Anniversary is a medium to full bodied cigar wrapped in a beautiful Dominican Habana 92 seed wrapper sitting over an Olor dominicano (Cibao Valley) wrapper and comprising a blend of Piloto Cubano (Cibao Valley, Rep. Dom), Olor dominicano (Cibao Valley) and Dominican Corojo filler.

The wrapper leaf is selected for its aromatic properties and even burn, while the fillers are chosen to provide a complete and balanced smoking experience without ever compromising on flavour. Available in dress boxes in four formats: Robusto (5×50), Toro (5 ½ x 54), Gran Toro (6×58) and Churchill (7×47). The cigar is expected to go on sale in late summer.

The flavour, explained by the manufacturer

The La Aurora 120 is a memorable smoke with a bold start characterised by a cedar flavour due to the ageing of the cigar. The cedar notes provide a soft buffer for the smoky flavours of peppery cinnamon and aniseed. With a strong start, there is an opportunity for sweeter notes that slowly evolve with sweet cocoa and coffee beans to a smooth vanilla finish to create balance.

As the burn progresses, the flavour profile turns on its head, offering a finish enriched by sweet, nutty flavours that take centre stage with subtle notes of wild honey and rich earth. Thanks to the Cibao Valley filler, sourced from La Aurora's own farms and long-standing partners, the cigar has been developed by carefully adapting La Aurora's standards and making adjustments that allow the team to produce cigars with ownership. The fillers are selected to provide a complete smoking experience in a full-bodied cigar that still delivers a balanced and refined sense of strength without ever compromising on flavour.
