Review Henry Clay War Hawk Lonsdale - Lightweight with history
Review Henry Clay War Hawk Lonsdale / I have smoked three examples of the Lonsdale-Vitola - and they deliver a clear, albeit rather well-behaved picture: Draw resistance? Perfect. Strength? 2/5 - so more like chamomile tea than espresso. There are also delicately bitter notes, a hint of wood and a slight spiciness. Sounds solid at first. But during the entire smoke, it remains as linear as a train ride without a stopover. For me personally, it simply lacks depth. Complexity? Not at all. But maybe that's not what it wants to be. Note: You can also see the Cuban cigar and the original vista in the photos.

Netflix series among the cigars
Because it is precisely this uncomplicated nature that is her trademark. She is like a good acquaintance who smiles friendly, makes polite small talk - and then disappears again without ever disturbing you. The Netflix series among cigars: light, entertaining, but tomorrow you won't know what you've actually seen - or smoked.

Great box design!
History - from Cuba to Honduras:

In the foreground: Pre-Ambargo Henry Clay from Cuba.
Henry Clay - this name sounds like cigar smoke, whiskey and the US Senate in the 19th century. And it fits: The brand was founded in Cuba in the mid-19th century, named after the US senator Henry Clay - a real political heavyweight, talented speaker and popular figure of his time.

Pre-Ambargo Henry Clay from Cuba.
I even have a pre-embargo box in my collection - unfortunately the cigars have long since been smoked, but I remember: complex, full-bodied, and a far cry in taste from what is sold today under the same name.

Original Vista from the box.

Back to the present: the new Henry Clay was only available in the USA for a long time. It has now also been available internationally since mid-2024. Highlight: The Henry Clay War Hawk Corona was awarded 95 points by Cigar Aficionado in 2021.

Nice detail: In the bottom layer, there is a wooden piece, like on Cuban cigar boxes.
Design and production

The box is a real eye-catcher! When you run out of cigars, you can store your cigar accessories in it. I'm a fan of these boxes from the new Henry Clay.
Each cigar has the classic red Henry Clay ring plus a golden War Hawk ring. Visually, this is definitely an eye-catcher in the humidor, especially for collectors.
It is made in the La Flor de Copán manufactory in Honduras - under the direction of the Grupo de Maestros, who are said to have developed a special fermentation process to give the War Hawk more depth and harmony.
Well... unfortunately I felt nothing of this masterpiece when I smoked it.
My conclusion

An uncomplicated smoke.
The Lonsdale is like a polite flirt at a cocktail party - charming, but without a lasting impression. Ideal for beginners looking for a mild cigar that won't overwhelm them. For experienced aficionados, it's more of a smoke for on the side - if you want to talk to someone, but not about the aroma spectrum of the cigar.
