Review: Camacho Limited Edition 2026 / It is with eager anticipation that I light the Camacho Limited Edition 2026 Perfecto. Right from the very first puffs, thick smoke begins to rise, noticeably filling the air in front of me. I deliberately give the cigar space and watch as the smoke unfurls throughout the room. From the very first moment, this cigar leaves a deep, honest tobacco note on the palate, revealing its complexity without being overwhelming. To me, this is an excellent blend, whose character fascinates from the very first minute and makes me curious about how the smoking experience will unfold. I’m thrilled!

Observed during the tasting

• Smoke pattern: A lot of smoke, which appears dense and dissipates quickly.
• Balance: There are notes of bitterness and umami, accompanied by a slight acidity and a sweetish finish.
• Development: Umami is strongly present and well-balanced right from the start; it has plenty of aroma and a very long finish. Over time, the umami develops a tingling sensation (peppery), but not too much.
• Strength: 1st half: 2/5, 2nd half: 3/5
• Design: It’s rolled very well; the air channels are open and the draw is just right. The ash is compact.
• Burn-up: Even throughout the first half. In the second half, there was a tendency for the glow to become uneven; this had to be corrected by stoking the fire from time to time, though not very often.

Smoke pattern – How does the smoke behave?

At the start, a considerable volume of smoke rises. The cloud of smoke has a compact texture, but then dissipates rapidly throughout the room. As the test progresses, the smoke retains its compact texture. Even in later stages, the rising smoke continues to dissipate quickly without lingering heavily in the room.

Why does the cigar behave like this?

The density and compactness of the smoke, as well as how quickly it dissipates in the room, can be influenced by the density of the tobacco blend, the moisture content, the draw, and the airflow inside the cigar.

From the very first sip, umami is clearly the dominant flavour and noticeably stimulates the salivary glands. Bitterness follows, whilst the acidity remains well in the background – later, a subtly balanced peppery note emerges – and even a hint of sweetness.

Balance – How harmonious is the blend?

From the very first sip, I detect a distinct presence of bitter notes and umami, whilst a slight acidity lingers in the background. During the first half, a finely balanced peppery element develops, contributing to the overall balance in just the right measure. A little later, a subtle sweetness joins in, gently rounding off the flavour profile. Umami is strongly present right from the start.

Why does the cigar behave like this?

In cigars, the balance and harmony of the basic flavour profiles depend on the selection of tobacco varieties used, the position of the leaves on the plant, their degree of maturity and the blend.

What is umami?

In ‘Tasting Notes’, the term Umami used to describe a subtle, savoury and mouth-watering depth in the smoke. Unlike distinct flavours such as spiciness or sweetness, umami creates a balanced, rich and long-lasting flavour sensation on the tongue and in the finish.

Right from the start, the Camacho Limited Edition 2026 Perfecto produces a substantial volume of smoke. The smoke appears dense, but dissipates relatively quickly in the room.

Development – Is the cigar changing?

Umami takes centre stage right from the start and remains consistently well-balanced, whilst bitterness follows closely behind and acidity remains well in the background. This presence of umami noticeably stimulates my salivation. The cigar offers plenty of flavour and leaves a very long finish on the palate. As time goes on, the umami develops a tingling, peppery sensation, which, however, remains controlled at all times and never becomes overpowering.

Why does the cigar behave like this?

Changes in flavour and intensity whilst smoking are caused by the embers moving along, the heating of the remaining tobacco, and the condensation of flavour compounds in the rear section of the cigar.

The construction proves to be very sound during the smoking session: open air channels, optimal draw and a compact ash structure. In the second half, the embers reach the widest part of the Perfecto vitola.

Strength – How does strength develop?

When I refer to strength, I am always talking about the nicotine content. In the first half, the cigar exhibits a moderate strength level of 2/5. As it moves into the second half, the strength becomes noticeably more pronounced and rises to a level of 3/5. Everyone perceives strength differently.

Why does the cigar behave like this?

The perceived strength of a cigar is determined by the nicotine content of the tobacco leaves used, the blend (e.g. Ligero leaves) and the pace at which it is smoked. Furthermore, as the cigar is smoked, certain substances become concentrated in the unburned tobacco.

As the smoking session progresses, the perceived strength increases: from 2/5 in the first half to 3/5 in the second. At the same time, the flavour balance remains consistent. Everyone experiences nicotine differently.

Construction and burn – How clean is the cigar?

The cigar is very well rolled; the air channels are open and provide optimal draw resistance. The ash holds together firmly. In the second half, the embers reach the thickest part of the Perfecto shape (the belly), which has a noticeable effect on the smoking experience.

The burn was even throughout the first half. In the second half, there was occasionally a tendency for the fire to smoulder at an angle, meaning that adjustments had to be made from time to time; however, this was rarely necessary.

Why does the cigar behave like this?

The burn rate and smoking characteristics are influenced by the precision of the rolling, the distribution of the filler leaves and the moisture balance within the tobacco. With formats such as the Perfecto, the varying diameter can also affect the burn rate and the temperature of the embers.

What remains after the tasting: the band from the Camacho Limited Edition 2026 and the last wisp of smoke from the finished cigar. A blend that leaves a lasting impression thanks to its umami, good complexity, gradually increasing strength and long finish.

The effects of fermentation and ageing

I carried out the tastings on 25 August 2026 and 26 August 2026. No precise details are available regarding the box date, the year of rolling or the exact ageing history.

Fermentation and ageing bring about lasting changes to the chemical composition of tobacco leaves, reducing their sharpness and harmonising the flavour profile. It is not possible to determine, from the tasting alone, exactly what changes the ageing process has brought about in this particular sample.

Conclusion

The Camacho Limited Edition 2026 Perfecto is a complex blend with a deep flavour profile that challenges the palate without overwhelming it. Particularly memorable is the pronounced umami note, which is present from the very start, stimulates the salivary glands and, over time, develops a slightly peppery effect. The construction proves to be very solid, with an optimal draw and a compact ash. As the cigar progresses, the strength increases from 2/5 to 3/5, whilst the ember reaches the widest point of the Perfecto format. The long finish rounds off a thoroughly enjoyable smoking experience.
