Review Davidoff Year of the Horse 2026
Review Davidoff Year of the Horse 2026 / I tested the new cigar - two of them, because with a new limited edition from Davidoff I want to be sure that the first impression is no coincidence. And I can already anticipate: Great format! This cigar really won me over - with its elegance, balance and the remarkable calm it exudes (huh - „calm“? More on that later). Exactly what you want from a cigar.

Contents Review Davidoff Year of the Horse 2026

This limited edition has been available since 20 November 2025. After twelve years of the zodiac cycle and the conclusion with the Year of the Snake 2024, Davidoff is starting a new chapter here. The horse - a symbol of freedom, strength and joie de vivre - characterised my two smokes with this cigar. Why freedom, strength and joie de vivre? Because I have just repositioned all the furniture in my lounge. I sold my previous humidors because in January 2026 I'm getting two very large cabinet humidors. So I sat comfortably in my armchair, happy to have moved all the furniture without any major injuries (although there were a few bruises) and enjoyed this excellent cigar - as a reward!

A new format: Toro Especial - and I love it
The Toro Especial is a format that Davidoff is presenting for the first time, and it immediately feels good. Elegant length, impressive ring gauge diameter - but not ostentatious. Just the right presence.

The blend consists entirely of the company's own hybrid tobaccos, whose genetic heritage goes back a total of 43 years. In addition, three Dominican vintage tobaccos give the cigar its deep, relaxed complexity. The wrapper and binder come from Ecuador. Within the first five minutes I thought: OK, this could be interesting!
And yes, it was interesting!
The smoking pleasure - creamy, chocolaty, nutty ... and very Davidoff
The flavour intensity is 4 out of 5 - and that fits. The strength of the nicotine up to the second third is a maximum of a 3 out of 5 for me personally, but in the last third it goes up to 4 out of 5. Everyone experiences the nicotine strength differently.
For me, the cigar shows:
- medium-intensity start, pleasantly round
- Medium to full body, without ever appearing heavy
- a consistently creamy mouthfeel, excellent balance
First half

The start is creamy, gently bittersweet and pleasantly nutty, with a balanced, medium-intensity presence. The smoke volume is soft, round and immediately accessible. You are in after just a few puffs - without a run-up. The first half develops further, the cigar becomes deeper and more complex.
Second half

The cigar gains body and remains harmonious and perfectly balanced throughout. The character deepens, the nut and chocolate flavours** combine with a spicy warmth that never becomes dominant. The balance impresses me, as it is the same for both specimens - so it's no coincidence, but craftsmanship.
The finish? Long, elegant, almost aristocratic.
**Chocolate notes? Yes, I know. The cigar is made of tobacco, not chocolate. By „chocolate notes“ I mean that it tastes bittersweet, slightly sweet.
And then this: the final third
It really ramps up here! Lots of wood, earth and nut, mixed with a pleasant peppery note, an enormous amount of umami (spicy, „meaty“) and leather. It becomes a little sweeter. Sensational!
Smoking duration
At over 90 minutes, this Toro Especial is neither a sprint nor a marathon - no, it is an emotionally pleasurable ride with an elegant and fantastic horse into the evening sun. Very relaxed and enjoyable.

Dimensions:
55 × 6 ½″ | Ø 2.2 cm × 16.5 cm
I really like the format. It sits comfortably in the hand, draws effortlessly and remains harmonious over its entire length. No biting. No twitching. No scratching. Just harmonious, perfect balance. That's what you want.
Smoking behaviour and combustion

The draw is optimal, the burn is clean and stable. Fine, light-coloured ash, good stability. No correction necessary. A cigar that you can simply enjoy.
Storage and maturing potential
With its vintage tobacco content, it has a good foundation for maturity. Already balanced now, it is likely to become even rounder and creamier over 12-24 months. You can store it without any problems.

My conclusion
The Davidoff Year of the Horse 2026 is a limited edition that I would smoke again in a heartbeat. It is well thought out, well composed and carries that quiet, confident elegance that Davidoff so masterfully achieves.
Two copies - and the same feeling twice:
Peace, depth, balance and genuine joy.
If this is the prelude to Davidoff's new zodiac cycle, then I can only say that the horse has got off to an excellent start.
Ah yes, that: „peace and quiet“
As I mentioned in the first section, this cigar exudes a remarkable serenity. But what exactly do I mean by that?
It unfolds its flavours without any haste, is never intrusive and remains completely balanced from the first puff. Nothing fidgets, nothing pushes, nothing jumps out at you aromatically. Instead, it develops in gentle, clearly structured waves - creamy, harmonious and completely stress-free.
This tranquillity comes from the balance of the blend, the perfect draw and the even burn. A cigar that does not challenge you, but carries you along. It lets you slow down automatically and slip into a relaxed rhythm.
A look behind the scenes of my review

While the Davidoff Year of the Horse 2026 smouldered away in a relaxed atmosphere, I took photos of it and later worked on the photo editing at my desk. Two monitors, a few tools - and a lot of attention to detail. It is precisely this calm and concentration that the cigar radiates that also accompanies the moment of image processing. A little look behind the scenes that shows: There is enjoyment long after the first puff 😀
