5TH Avenue explains: "For the fifth time, Habanos S.A. is launching an exclusive cigar for Chinese New Year with the Montecristo Brillantes. This year, a completely new format has been created: the "Venerables" with a length of 128 mm and a ring gauge of 53."
The 18-cigar box costs CHF / EUR 1,440.00 (CHF / EUR 80.00 per cigar). In Switzerland it will be available from 20.08.2024 at La Casa del Habano Switzerland and from 27.08.2024 at Habanos Specialist Switzerland. They are already on sale in Germany.

Great new format! Venerables, is 128 mm long and has a 53 mm ring. Fits perfectly between the fingers.
NFC chip
The cigar boxes are equipped with an NFC chip on the inside of the lid. This technology allows cigar lovers to scan the NFC chip on the packaging to check the authenticity of the product and obtain additional information about the cigar.

No fault in the cigar
I couldn't calculate a rating, that wouldn't be fair. Because the cigar is currently still in the so-called sick phase and still needs some time to mature.

External impression
Wrapper: The wrapper was somewhat rustic and silky, with a dark brown color.
Construction: The cigar was evenly rolled.
Cold draw: Sweetish-fruity.
The Montecristo Brillantes Year Of The Dragon 2024 glows long and evenly. The photo shows a S.T. Dupont FLUO (link under Resources on the subject).
After lighting and for the first five minutes
Lighting was super easy and the draw resistance was optimal.
The cigar gets off to a pretty good start and quickly develops a rich, woody aroma. This is initially pleasant and well balanced. After that, the cigar became a little spicy and bitchy. Cocoa, wood, acidic, biting, peppery.
The aftertaste was quite intense and somewhat unpleasant
My suggestion for maturing storage and purchase
3 years, so until April 2026. The boxing date was APR 24, but the cigar was of course rolled before that. I would say around April to June 2023, another source estimates September / October 2023.
The cigar has great ageing potential!
I can only recommend the purchase, especially as it is a really great format (128 mm length and 53 ring). This is a new format called Venerables. The box is also beautiful. Just put the box with the cigars in the humidor and let them mature. Smoke a cigar every few months to see how it develops. After around two to three years, the cigars should be at their peak.
