In the Montecristo Herederos Review, the smoke builds up smoothly and evenly from the very first puff. It is of normal density and feels neither heavy nor overpowering. The box date of the cigars tasted is MAR26, i.e. March 2026. The tasting took place on 24 July 2026. As the box date does not correspond to the exact rolling date, the actual age can only be estimated. The cigars were likely to have been around five to seven months old at the time of this Montecristo Herederos review.

The first half is remarkably well-balanced. Nothing dominates the flavour profile. As the smoke progresses, the blend slowly gains depth.

It is only in the final third that a more pronounced bitterness emerges, without upsetting the cigar’s fundamental character.

It is precisely this bitterness in the final third that suggests the blend still has potential to mature. This is entirely normal for young Cuban cigars and should by no means be seen as a flaw. With further ageing, the individual tobaccos are likely to blend together even more harmoniously, and the bitterness will recede further into the background.

What is particularly noteworthy is the way the flavour develops: the cigar does not change character abruptly, but gains depth step by step. It is not abrupt changes in direction, but subtle shifts within the blend that shape the smoking experience.

Development – Is the cigar changing? Consistency as a mark of quality

Many smokers expect a cigar to constantly reinvent itself whilst being smoked. However, this is not necessarily a sign of quality. This review of the Montecristo Herederos shows that a well-constructed blend can also impress through its consistency.

Strength – How does strength develop? Noticeable, but never overpowering

In the first half, the strength – that is, the nicotine – ranges from mild to medium (2/5). In the second half, it increases moderately, but remains controlled at all times and never feels harsh or tiring (3/5). This makes the cigar suitable for smokers who prefer a balanced smoking experience to a sharp rise in nicotine.

Construction and burn – How clean is the cigar?

The workmanship makes a very good impression in the Montecristo Herederos review. The cigar is neatly rolled and offers optimal draw resistance. This results in a consistent smoke flow without the need to draw too hard. The burn also remains even for long stretches. Occasionally, there is a slight waviness. However, relighting was rarely necessary. This solid construction allows you to concentrate fully on the development of the blend.

The effects of fermentation and ageing

The cigar tasted came from a box with a box date of March 2025 and was smoked in July 2026. At that point, it still seemed relatively young. The blend is already showing its potential, but is likely to gain further cohesion and depth with further ageing. One or two additional years’ storage would certainly be advisable.
