Dominico Robusto - A piece of jewellery with an inconspicuous anilla

Dominico Robusto. Sometimes true enjoyment comes in simple packaging - and the Dominico Robusto cigar is the perfect example of this. Inexpensive, in a practical bundle without frills and with anilla that you would prefer to ignore. At first glance, the Dominico may seem like an everyday cigar, but it has more to offer than meets the eye. Made by Villiger, a manufacturer that many people (including me) don't immediately trust to make premium cigars, it surprises across the board. I have tasted three of them and can already say that my prejudice was unfounded - but more on that later.

The first impression: mild flavour, a hint of nut and a little sweetness

The Dominico Robusto starts off pleasantly mild, with a well-balanced portion of spice and an initial flavour of nuts and cocoa. This is complemented by a hint of sweetness and a slightly salty undertone - a really pleasant mix. Retronasal reveals a slight acidity with a fresh straw note. Overall, a gentle and pleasantly rounded experience that is ideal for the first cigar of the day.

Acclimatisation: Dominico also wants to relax first

As with all non-Cuban cigars, rest and acclimatisation in the humidor are essential after travelling from the tropics. A few weeks of rest help to develop the flavours and give the cigar stability. Unfortunately, the industry standard here is often a quick sales cycle. So my tip: give the Dominico Robusto (and your taste buds) a little patience - it's worth it!

Second half: More cocoa, roasted flavours and a pinch of coffee

In the second half, things really get going: the cocoa becomes more intense, a hint of wood joins in and the retronasal notes change towards roasted flavours and coffee beans. The sweetness remains subtly in the background and rounds off the spicy balance. A really pleasant daytime cigar that offers a surprising amount of flavour and is never overwhelming. Strength? Increases slightly to 3/5, perfect for a relaxed round.

Conclusion: A good daily cigar - but this Anilla...

To be honest: The Dominico Robusto surprised me and completely disproved my preconceptions. The cigar is pleasantly mild, spicy, with a hint of nut and cocoa, and offers a really enjoyable smoke. For the price, it is an everyday cigar that belongs in every humidor - whether for a relaxing evening after work or a little snack in between.

As for the Anilla... Unfortunately, the choice of colours looks a bit old-fashioned, to put it nicely. A real „face for the radio“. I admit, if I hadn't been given it to test, it would probably never have ended up in my shopping basket because of this Anilla. But that just goes to show how important it is not to judge by appearances.
