This is not the Roman numeral for six, but stands for Viktor, the youngest son of Mauro Benaglio. The brand name LEMENA, in turn, is made up of the first names of the children of Diego and Mauro Benaglio. What strikes me most about this cigar is its consistency. The blend maintains its character right to the end \u2013 whilst gradually shifting its balance within that character. It does not linger in the room for long after being exhaled, but dissipates quickly. As the tasting progresses, however, I notice a slight change: the volume and density of the smoke increase somewhat, and the smoke seems a little fuller later on than at the start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why does the cigar behave like this?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How dense the smoke appears and how quickly it dissipates in the room can be influenced by factors such as the moisture content of the tobacco, the packing density and the ambient humidity. The duration and intensity of a puff also play a role. The bitterness remains noticeably in the background, and there is only a very slight hint of acidity. Instead, the umami flavour is slightly more pronounced on the palate. On the first day of my tasting, a pleasant spiciness only became apparent from about the second half onwards (I\u2019d tasted it early in the morning, around 7 am); on the second day, I noticed it right from the start \u2013 I tasted it at 10 am. Such impressions fascinate me every time I smoke a cigar: it never tastes exactly the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When I draw the smoke retronasally through my nose, the already very well-balanced profile gains a noticeable extra depth for me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why does the cigar behave like this?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The balance of flavours \u2013 bitterness, acidity, sweetness and umami \u2013 is determined by the selection of tobacco varieties used, their position on the tobacco plant at harvest, the degree of fermentation, and the blend of the base tobaccos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is umami?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In \u2018Tasting Notes\u2019, the term&nbsp;<strong>Umami<\/strong>&nbsp;used to describe a subtle, savoury and mouth-watering depth in the smoke. The cigar remains true to its fundamental character. Yet it does not stand still. Umami and bitterness gradually come to the fore. Salivation increases, whilst the retronasal balance gains additional depth. I regard this consistent profile throughout the entire smoking experience as a great feat of craftsmanship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Further reading: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zigarren.zone\/konstanz-bei-zigarren\/\">Why consistency is a greater achievement in the world of cigars than constant change<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For me, that is precisely what makes this development so interesting: it does not require a complete change in character. Rather, the balance shifts within a stable underlying structure. Both the umami and bitter notes gradually intensify as the tobacco is smoked. However, this occurs within a framework that never feels unpleasant. As the tasting progressed, the strength increased very gradually, reaching a rating of 2\/5 on the five-point scale towards the end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why does the cigar behave like this?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The perceived strength of a cigar is determined by the nicotine content of the tobacco leaves used, with stronger leaves often coming from the upper parts of the tobacco plant. Everyone reacts differently to nicotine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"wirkung-von-fermentation-und-reife\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Construction and burn \u2013 How clean is the cigar?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During this tasting, I\u2019m paying particular attention to the construction. I\u2019ve cut a large section of the cigar to see how neatly the air channels have been finished. My impression is clear: optimal draw and excellent rolling. I hardly need to intervene whilst it\u2019s burning either. The line runs straight and only rarely becomes slightly wavy. The ash remains normally compact. I find the burn stability particularly interesting. I make a point of smoking slowly. I take two or three puffs roughly every 3.5 to 4 minutes. The cigar continues to smoulder for a correspondingly long time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why does the cigar behave like this?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The burn characteristics and the stability of the ash depend on the precision of the craftsmanship involved in rolling, the composition of the filler, the moisture content and the chosen draw interval.
