Table cutter - The special cut is intended to make the smoke cooler

All Cuts Quad Table Cutter: The figurado formats are generally cut very little. If the draw resistance is too low, a little more is cut off. In the Don Alejandro's cigar lounge in Dietlikon (near Zurich), the owner showed me a very special cut for this format. The cigar opens at a slight angle. As a result, it retains its figurado shape and the draw resistance is optimal.

Another effect: the smoke should remain cooler, according to the owner's explanation. The smoke first rises directly to the palate and then flows cooler downwards and spreads in the mouth.

I did not measure the temperature. But the first time I cut such a format in this way, I simply noticed that there was something different about the cigar; it was even more pleasant to smoke than usual.

There is even an accessory for this. When cutting, you just have to make sure that you turn the cigar with the cigar ring downwards so that you have the cut on the right side when smoking. The opening should point upwards so that the smoke reaches the palate first and not the bottom of the mouth. Because the cigar ring points forwards and not downwards when smoking.

I have not yet tested this cutting technique with a conventional cutter.

Place the cigar so that the cigar ring (i.e. the logo) is facing downwards.

Why? Because then you have the cut in the right place: The logo of the cigar ring points upwards because you should see the logo when smoking. The cut is therefore in the right place so that the smoke in the mouth first rises upwards to the palate and then cools downwards.

The Figurado shape is retained with this cut.

  1. This is a very interesting article. But I just wonder, is it possible to make this cut without having to buy another cutter?

    1. No. 😂 Sure, you can do it with a cutter, but it's much more difficult. I think you're also at the event on 02.06.24? I'll bring this table cutter with me, you can test it then.
