Quorum Classic Robusto: Good and cheap, but friendship has not developed

Sometimes you meet in a cigar humidor, look deep into each other's eyes - and think to yourself: "Why not?" That's exactly how the Quorum Classic Robusto made me feel. It is inexpensive, reliable and, with a price of less than CHF 4.00 each (as at November 24), almost a real catch in the Robusto class. But, as with many a date, only time will tell whether the spark really ignites. Spoiler: In this case, it was more of a friendly handshake.

The first impression: Sour and lots of cocoa - an unusual start

I tasted the cigar not once, but three times. And yes, it remained true to itself. Even in the first half, the Quorum Classic Robusto shows plenty of acidity, combined with a full shot of cocoa and a hint of almonds. The retronasal spice mixes in - and the whole thing develops a strength of 3/5. So this is not a cigar that hides. If you look here, you'll find it, and pretty much exactly: acidity and cocoa. And me? Well, I find it intense, but not my ideal aroma.

Acclimatization: a little chill-out time in the humidor does you good

An insider tip that applies to many non-Cuba cigars: after a trip from the tropics, the cigar is a little out of balance. They need to rest, in our humidor - at least two weeks, if not longer. A little rest from the journey can smooth out the taste and balance the aromas. But the industry? They want to sell! So the cigars are often put on the market quickly. But patience pays off, as I say to anyone who wants to embark on this taste journey.

Second half: More cocoa, more acidity and a pinch of spiciness

In the second half at the latest, it becomes clear that the Quorum Classic Robusto is not backing down. The acidity remains present and the cocoa becomes even more intense. This is joined by a slight spiciness. For those who love these notes, this is certainly an experience. But for me? It was a bit like constantly glancing sideways at the clock - we're not quite there yet. I almost thought we could still make it, but the Quorum Shade Robusto opened the way to a smoother smoke.

Conclusion: A cigar for the small purse, but not for my taste

What remains to be said? The Quorum Classic Robusto offers decent quality for its price-performance ratio. The wrapper and the finish are clean, the burning behavior acceptable. A small correction with the lighter is necessary, but hey - at this price, it's easy to forgive. For fans of spicy, delicately bitter and acidic notes, it may be just the thing. But I have to admit that the friendship between us and the Quorum Classic Robusto probably never quite got off the ground. The Quorum Shade Robusto clearly has more charm. It all comes down to the wrapper.
