Manuel's baffles with sweepstakes: play along, but don't collect prize for another 25 years

At Manuel's in Zurich you can win a box of 25 Romeo y Julieta Wide Churchills. But you can only collect your prize in 25 years' time. I think that's great! The closing date for entries is 31.01.2023.

I spoke to Manuel Fröhlich, the owner of Manuel's. "What kind of competition is this where you don't get the cigars for another 25 years?" Manuel smiles. "That's unusual, isn't it?" - "But yes, and how!" I replied. "Tell me about it!"

He thinks for a moment and explains: "On the one hand, you should of course have the time and leisure to enjoy a cigar. But in my opinion, it's just as important that the cigar is mature." -"And when is that time?" I want to know. He continues: "I can explain this to you using the example of this beautiful Romeo y Julieta Wide Churchill from Cuba." We are in the walk-in humidor and Manuel shows me a box of 25.

The walk-in humidor at Manuel's in Zurich.

"It's a first-class Havana with complex aromas that unfold sweetly," he tells me. "As massive as its ring gauge is, the smoke is soft and the tobacco tastes sweet. Nevertheless, it would be a shame to send you this box of 25 straight away. Because when we store your box in our humidor at 18 degrees and 65 percent relative humidity, a lot happens. Provided, of course, that you have time. Microorganisms cause fermentation and the cigar becomes even milder, more elegant and more harmonious."

It's best to see for yourself. All you need is a little luck and a lot of patience. Because Manuel's is now giving away a box of 25 Romeo y Julieta Wide Churchills from the year 2022.

If you win, you will be notified immediately and you can visit your cigars in the humidor at Manuel's and look forward to the year 2048. Then you can finally pick up your cigars and enjoy them. Good luck and hasta luego.

"But what if someone doesn't have the patience?" I asked Manuel. "No problem," he replied. "In our store (Löwenstrasse 12, Zurich) you can already find a large selection of vintage cigars that have been allowed to mature with us for years and are now ready to be enjoyed."

  1. This is associated with certain challenges. My current place of residence is not in Switzerland, which excludes me according to the GTCs. What a pity. All that remains is to wish the lucky winners and Manuel Fröhlich a long, healthy, happy and successful life. Funny idea.

  2. Great idea! This cigar could also be over after 25 years. I would have a little more confidence in the R&J Cazadores for that period...my humble opinion. However, Manuel's has decided and I think it's a great idea!

    1. Dear Heino, you're right, the choice is a bit bold. We also opted for the Romeo y Julieta Wide Churchill because it is a well-known and very popular cigar that is not easily available at the moment. We also advertised the competition in popular magazines and therefore took these considerations into account. 25 years is also rather long - but that's the point. Nobody really knows what the Romeo Wide Churchill will taste like in 25 years' time - after all, this cigar hasn't even been around that long 😉 We currently have vintages of the Wide Churchill on sale from 2014 onwards. Surprisingly, however, it is not Romeo y Julieta or Hoyo de Monterrey that have developed the fastest, but the Montecristo formats. So there are also surprises in Havana aging. Best regards, Manuel

  3. Good morning Vasilij
In 25 years I will be 96 years old. I'm not sure if I'll still be able to pick up a prize somewhere. I'm sure there will be a few younger cigar smokers who can enjoy the prize.
    But I think it's a good idea.
    Greetings from Bern
    Peter

    1. Ahoy Peter, don't be so negative, have a little hope ? I think this idea is great too! It's the most ingenious cigar idea I've ever seen. Especially as it points right through the flower to the existing Habanos range, which is now available at Manuel's in Zurich to enjoy in his lounge. ? HAPPY SMOKE ? ~ Vasilij
