InterTabac 24 exclusive: Aganorsa fanboy moment - What Terence Reilly reveals about the future

So there I am at the Kopp stand, surrounded by big names and even bigger brands. But for me, I have to admit, the highlight of the day remains Aganorsa. That was a real fanboy moment last year, and now I'm here again to see what's new. And who better to tell me than Terence Reilly himself? (Editor's note: Did you know that Aganorsa is the largest producer of raw tobacco in Nicaragua? No, it's not Plasencia. You can find an article about Aganorsa at Zigarren.Zone, the link can be found at the end of this article).

Deja vu!

"Hi," I say, perhaps a little too enthusiastically. "Hi," Terence replies with a smile and adds, "Deja vu!" I have to laugh as I say, "I think there's a bug in the Matrix." Terence grins. "Tell me a little about yourself and your brand."

And so he does. "Well, I'm Terence Reilly from Aganorsa Leaf. We're still relatively new on the international market. We recently brought Fabian Ziegler on board. He previously worked at Drew Estate and is now helping us to make Aganorsa known worldwide."

I nod, because I've known Fabian for a while. "Last year was your first time at InterTabac. A huge success, wasn't it?" "Yes, absolutely!" Terence beams. "That's why we're back again this year - with a few special new products that will soon be available in Europe and worldwide. For example, our Supreme Leaf, a special blend that we release once a year in the USA. It sells out on the first day every time. Always in a new size." "Wow," I say, impressed, "but you can't get that in Europe?"

Two vitolas for the international market

"Yes, yes," Terence reassures me. "We have developed two vitolas exclusively for the international market: Robusto and Toro. The same blend as in the USA, but these two formats are only available outside the States. A total of 2,024 boxes per size, suitable for the year."

"Interesting! What else is new?" I want to know. "Arsenio," says Terence with a hint of nostalgia. "Aganorsa Leaf Arsenio. Named after Arsenio Ramos, our long-time plant manager. He came from Pinar del Rio, Cuba, and shaped the typical Aganorsa flavor for over 18 years. He passed away in 2018, but this cigar was his personal blend. We have given it a new packaging as a tribute to a true Cuban master. It will be coming to Europe in the coming months."

Tattoos and goosebumps

Luckily, you can't see the goose bumps I get because of the tattoos on my arms. "That's a nice story." - "Thank you," says Terence modestly. "We also have JFR, a brand that's very popular in the US and we're now bringing it to Europe. It will be available in different wrapper options: Connecticut, Maduro and our Corojo 99."

"It makes your mouth water," I admit. "What else can you offer?" "Aganorsa flex!" Terence suddenly says with a twinkle in his eye. "Flex? Tell me more!" I'm curious. "Yes, we have a Facebook group. Fans can flex their Aganorsa cigars there - proudly present them and show them off. We also have a great YouTube channel where you can see our farms and factories, interviews with the people who make Aganorsa special."

(Editor's note: Flexing is a colloquial term that originally comes from the English "to flex" and means to show off or brag about something).

"That sounds great," I say enthusiastically. "I'm definitely going to check it out." "You do that," says Terence, extending his hand to me. "Thanks for stopping by." "Thank you," I say, and I mean it. "I'm already looking forward to the new cigars!"

A really exciting conversation - and now I can hardly wait to get my hands on the next Aganorsa products.
