Emilia Tamayo has passed away. She was the first woman in Cuba to run a cigar factory: The Cohiba manufactory El Laguito.
A life for the cigar
Emilia Tamayo worked in the Cuban cigar industry for over 20 years. For ten years, she ran the factory of the most famous Habanos brand with great success. For her employees, she was always more than just "the boss". Thanks to her warm and winning manner and her great understanding, she was regarded as the "mother" of the factory.
For her great services to the Cuban cigar industry, she was the first woman to be honored by Habanos S.A. with the prestigious "Hombre del Habano" award. Emilia Tamayo always gave a warm welcome to visitors from Germany and Austria at the "Festivals del Habano" and visited Germany several times for cigar events and the InterTabac trade fair.
5TH Avenue, the official exclusive importer of Habanos in Germany, Austria and Poland, will honor the memory of Emilia Tamayo.
