Cigar smokers and the cell phone - How we fail at enjoyment
Cigar smokers and cell phones - a combination that shouldn't really exist. And yet it's a reality: you're sitting in the lounge with a cigar in your hand, trying to wind down - and staring at your smartphone. The bitter truth about our cozy hypocrisy.

Cigar smokers and the cell phone! That's not possible! iPhone, tablet, desktop PC WITH A CIGARRE?! IS IT STILL POSSIBLE! (Yes, I know; that's me in the photo...).
Lounge. Leather. Cigar. WLAN? We cigar smokers and the cell phone
You're sitting in the lounge.
A wonderfully strong cigar in your hand. A soft leather sofa under your butt.
An espresso on the table, which according to the description in delicate hazelnut with floral shades of Guatemala should lose.
All around you: other aficionados.
All there because of the calm, the conversation, the real moment.
And yet...
ALL. Stare. At. Your. cell. phone.
Slowing down digitally? Cigar smokers and the cell phone in self-deception
Of course you say to yourself:
"I'm here to enjoy. I am not a slave to my screen."
And that is absolutely right.
Until you check whether your cigar photo on Instagram has already received two likes out of sheer inner serenity.
Spoiler: one of them is from a bot from Paraguay with a cigar emoji in its name.
Cigar smokers and self-deception - slowing down while looking at the display
We cigar smokers are generally regarded as people with depth.
Patient. Reflective. Independent.
But how does it fit in that even in the middle of a slow-smoke conversation, someone suddenly "only briefly" taps his Apple Watch?
Or typing silently under the table as if he were secretly negotiating a peace agreement?
Honestly?
The cigar burns slowly - but not us anymore.
Why cigar smokers are constantly looking at their cell phones - 4 elegant excuses
Here are some of the most common inner excuses, finely tuned to the cigar-smoking mind:
1. "I just wanted to check what time it is."
(Because time apparently needs military control when it comes to enjoyment).
2. "I'll just post the ash history briefly, that's important for my audience."
(Your audience consists of 38 followers and your uncle who thinks you're a bartender).
3. "I'm just googling what's really in the cigar."
(Nobody believes you, you just want to know if your WhatsApp has been read.)
4. "I just replied briefly to a message."
(Short. Clear. Only 1,600 characters long.)
Cigar smokers lose the moment - when the cell phone takes over
Suddenly the cigar becomes a supporting actor.
You still have it in your hand, but you're mentally in three group chats, a Google tab and the live stream of some cigar maker in Nicaragua folding tobacco leaves. Live. With 27 viewers.
And yes - you are one of them.
Pleasure or habit? The silent irony of cigar smokers with cell phones
It is ironic.
The cigar, this symbol of deceleration, becomes the backdrop for our digital nervousness.
We preach indulgence - and behave like stockbrokers with nicotine background noise.
Focus back: Cigar smoker, put down the cell phone
The next time you light a cigar -
put the cell phone away.
Not within sight. Not on vibration. Do not only with flight mode.
Path. Lay. But. Really.
And if anyone asks you why you're not available, just say so:
"I'm very busy right now. I'm doing... nothing. Very consciously."
Because that, my friend, is true luxury.
Not the cigar.
But courage, smoke them without distraction.
Do you recognize yourself?
Do your cigar and smartphone stare at each other?
Or are you one of the last smoking romantics without screen stress? Let me know in the comments - I'm curious to find out whether we're all just slowing down digitally... or whether we really are. Without registration, following this post.

I am always disappointed with Habanos, he jetet business back and forth! Either draw poorly, or go out again and again, also they don't burn continuously:slanted, tunnel edge and so! What is the actual cause? After all, I'm a seasoned cigar smoker, not a beginner! Am I dealing with fakes?
Firm pull? Mostly a question of storage
✅ I often hear the complaint that Cuban cigars have too much draw resistance. In my experience, this happens so rarely that I hardly want to think about it. In most cases, the cause is that the cigars have been stored too damp.
Cuban cigars feel most comfortable at a relative humidity of 69 % - 65-69 % at around 16 °C is optimal. I know that these conditions cannot be achieved in a humidor at home, especially when it comes to temperature.
✅ If a cigar has too tight a draw, place it outside the humidor for 1-2 hours (not in the sun). During this time, it will release some moisture and the draw resistance will improve significantly.
The man is just not multitasking. So he has to choose either a cigar or a cell phone. Otherwise he'll never be able to slow down, relax, enjoy and just BE.
